I respectfully disagree with your assessment of my previous post. I was responding to these sentances contained in the original post that started this topic:

"What ever happened to the expression "you don't know shit from shinola"? Do any of today's yuppies even know what "shinola" is? Like other phrases of years gone by, this one has disappeared, only to be replaced by "whatever!" and other words and phrases that show only self centered egotism, with no concern (either good or bad) for anyone else."

To me, this came across as "if you don't know what these sayings mean, you're self-centered." I take objection to that! So if my 10-year old son doesn't know the expression "23-skidoo", he's self-centered and has no concern for anyone else? Huh? Of course all of those great old expressions are part of our culture heritage! And yes, my 79-year father uses many of those phrases and if my son doesn't understand them, we explain them. But to equate not knowing them with not learning about the Holocaust????? As a Jew, I found that hideously insulting and hurtful, seeing as there are Holocaust survivors in our family, and my son is learning about it in Hebrew school. Of course children of all ages should learn about the past. However, I don't really care if a child doesn't know what Shinola is!

No, what I meant is that I was upset about the original premise that just because someone is not familiar with a particular phrase, he or she is some vile, egocentric person. Now that's logic I don't understand!!
