The rules to bring in pets to Japan have changed dramatically. It is VERY difficult now, but not impossible.

Also, there is a 2 PET LIMIT PER HOUSEHOLD on Okinawa. Please check with housing BEFORE bringing over more than 2 pets!

Lastly, you are responsible for paying for the transport of your pet(s) back to the STates when you PCS, and it can be expensive if you choose to fly them cargo (in other words, not on the flight with you).

The best resource of information regarding the cost of shipping pets out of Okinawa, or for the regulations to get them in is via LINDA COBB of PAWSinOki:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PAWSinOki/

Join the group to ask Linda (and other members) your questions. I consider Linda the foremost authority on pet shipping since she takes back DOZENS of dogs per year to the States for adoption! Out of her own pocket, none the less.
