Subject: Absolute Worst Horror Films On Any List

After watching the worst Universal horror films with my cousin over the last couple of months, we decided to
watch some of the all time worst films from the 50s and 60s only, like Plan 9 from Outer Space, Robot Monster,
Cat-Women of the Moon, Fire Maidens of Outer Space, etc.

I then researched all the worst movies in the large collection of books and magazines I have.
And I also looked them up on IMDb and other sites.

Well the most famous worst movies are Plan 9 and Robot Monster. But they are not the actual worst. There are many others that are far worse.

Well after I finished researching the worst listed films, almost all of the movie critics and regular horror fans seem to pick these films.

Some movies vary for the top spot with each critic, but going by all the votes, this is how the list came out.

Critics List, Worst to Best:

The Creeping Terror
Manos: Hands of Fate
Monster a Go Go
Beast of Yukka Flats
Robot Monster
Invasion of the Star Creatures
The Eye Creatures
Plan 9
Eegah
Bride of the Monster
The Killer Shrews
Fire Maidens of Outer Space
Cat-Women of the Moon
Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman

My List, Worst to Best"

MANOS: HAND OF FATE - Absolute bomb. Very hard to sit through.

MONSTER A GO GO - Not much better. The only fairly interesting scenes are when the monster appears. Though he doesn't show up much, and it had a very dumb ending.

THE CREEPING TERROR - Another one that's hard to sit through. And I was fairly entertained whenever the carpet monster shows up. Yeah, the producers covered some young guys with an old ragged carpet, to make one of the worst looking monsters ever.

BEAST OF YUKKA FLATS - Tor Johnson's beast helps this movie out a little. But it ranks close to the other three as being so bad, that it is bad.

INVASION OF THE STAR CREATURES - Tries to be a Sci-Fi comedy, but comes off just plain stupid and annoying.
"The Monster Times" magazine called this the second worst movie of all time.

THE EYE CREATURES - Remake of Invasion of the Saucer Men. But this makes Saucer Men look like Citizen Kane.

EEGAH - This one isn't quite as bad as the others, it has some interest moments due to Richard Kiel's portrayal of the giant caveman creature.

CAT WOMEN OF THE MOON - The production values and acting are better than all the other films here but the action is slow, which makes it hard to stay focused.

FIRE MAIDENS OF OUTER SPACE - Slightly better than Cat-Women IMO. Mainly because of the sexier women and a little more action.

PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE - Bad acting. Bad direction. Bad special effects, make this movie so bad, it's good. I found Plan 9 very entertaining. Gotta love Ed Wood.

ATTACK OF THE FIFTY FOOT WOMEN - Bad special effects and bad acting doesn't keep this one from being entertaining.

ROBOT MONSTER - I saw this on tv in 1956 at 7 yrs old on a summer night on a double feature with Unknown Island.
Ro-Man as he was called, a moon gorilla with a diving helmet, gave me the chills back then. But now movies rarely scare me. Yes, very bad acting, and direction, but this is still a guilty pleasure for me.

THE KILLER SHREWS - Dogs wearing cheap masks play the killer shrews along with some bad acting put this on the bad movie lists. But I like this movie anyway.

BRIDE OF THE MONSTER - The best of all the Ed Wood films. Bela Lugosi plays his last mad doctor role and does a pretty good job here. And despite the low budget and Ed Wood's one shot direction, I find this film very entertaining

An excellent survey of horror films considered the worst of all time.

There are some movies on the list that I have never seen, including Manos: Hands of Fate and Monster a Go Go.

Plan 9 from Outer Space and The Creeping Terror used to show up a lot on late night television in the 1970s. Although Plan 9 has the reputation of being the "worst movie ever made," The Creeping Terror is easily the worst of the pair.

Plan 9 is pretty entertaining in a low-budget B-movie sort of way. The Creeping Terror is just abysmal, although the carpet monster is kind of amazing to watch, mainly because it's so phony looking.

The Killer Shrews is one I enjoy watching, despite the obvious budget limitations. Some of the acting is bad, but leading man James Best does a decent job with what he is given. The movie was produced by Ken Curtis, who later found fame as Festus on Gunsmoke. Curtis also appears in the movie, playing a very unlikable character. That same year Curtis produced (but did not appear in) The Giant Gila Monster.

I find Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman fun to watch, although it's a terrible movie and has some of the worst special effects of all time.

A great list of awful movies, Dan. Nice work.

Tim
