There are many different thoeries about this. I think the only way to tell is with movement,zig-zag or up and down. There sre many things that float in the air such as dust ,pollen, and moisture. Lens flare is also something to watch out for in pictures and flashes off of objects. I dont rely too much on org pics, many variables.
