Illusion smiled a little as the stag scratched a spot, the ends of her maw rising ever so slightly. He wasn't as aristocratic as she thought, no no. Not that she minded though. But her smile dropped as she was faced the doomed question, the one she loathed with her life and mind. The mare's eyes seemed to dim, as if the sun was obscured by a thin rain cloud. She was hesitant about the right words.
"It was my mother. She neglected me. From what I heard, she had been force bred by a tyrant and vowed to never love the offspring, me. Yes, I grew steadily, but it was only physically I was, and am, healthy. In fear of my father, I ran away when I was three..." Her voice grew quiet, but she held her head high as if she never mentioned it before. Her eyes were blank and lusterless and as opaque as the dirt; it was Illusion's way of trying to mask her pain. She knew Troy needed to hear no more--it was not needed at all.
