Subject: Skewl, I know how hard it is for your child to be in the hospital.....

My youngest, who is now 8, had to have surgery when he was 3 months old. His stomach was hard, and his "poop", (sorry), was out of whack. His pediatrician said we needed to take him to the children's hospital immediately, and have an xray of his stomach. That was about an hour away. So of course, I'm freakin out. (Come to find out later that the dr. had in the back of his mind that it was a tumor and he wouldnt live much longer). Anyway, they said he had something called Herschsprung Disease (sp?). It's where some of the little nerves in the colon that push the poop out were missing, so the poop was backing up, causing all the problems. Only a small amount was getting out every day. He had over a pound of poop backed up in his little tummy at 3 months old! But the thing was, he was little still. He wasnt a big baby at all. Anyway, they made a small incision in his stomach, took out about an inch, and he went home in 3 days. It's hard, it really is. I feel for you so much Skewl. I'll be thinking and praying for you and your son.
