Subject: Hiking - just a little drabble from a fic prompt

Hi, everyone! Just thought I would share a little drabble that I wrote recently - this was a response to a fic prompt of 'hiking.' I still enjoy writing the occasional Harm and Mac fic prompt, so if you think of any, please feel free to let me know, and I'll see what the muse comes up with.

(Also, I've found that the punctuation on this site seems to disappear sometimes, so I hope this is readable!)

“And then the friendly ghost teleported right into the middle of the Starship Enterprise and yelled ‘boo’!”

Bud Roberts finished his tale with a dramatic sweep of his hands and a wide smile, eagerly glancing around the campfire circle to gauge his audience’s reaction. He heard crickets cheeping in the tall grass nearby and an owl even hooted in the distance, but the Cub Scouts were completely silent. Even his son A.J. was speechless, staring back at him with a blank expression on his face.

“Pretty lame, Commander Roberts,” one of A.J.’s best friends, Teddy, finally said. “Captain Rabb tells way better ghost stories.”

“Yeah…and way scarier,” a couple of the other boys added in agreement.

Bud frowned. “All right, all right,” he grumbled, holding up his hands in defeat. “I get the point. Off to bed with all of you now.”

As the group of eight-year-old boys scurried away to their tents, Bud put out the fire and checked the perimeter of the camp. When all was quiet, he ducked into A.J. and Teddy’s tent and bent down to tuck his son into his sleeping bag.

“It was a good try, Dad,” A.J. said softly.

Bud smiled, his son’s compliment helping to soothe his wounded pride. “Thanks, son.”

“Is Uncle Harm ever going to come on another Cub Scout Overnight Forest Hike?”

“Maybe next time,” Bud assured him.

“Why couldn’t he come this time?”

“Well,” Bud explained, “Uncle Harm couldn’t make it this time because he and Aunt Mac just had a baby boy of their very own.”

Maybe you can write a scene with Harm and Mac at the hospital with their newborn. Or maybe the birth of their son, Mattie meeting him, or even Bud visiting them in the hospital with Harriet and little AJ. Just some of my ideas. You write very good.
