I'm sorry, but I agree with Mandee. I love the pet shop Teacups in Hollywood - puppy store or not. They are NOTHING like the WOC!!! They actually care about their puppies, and if you've ever been inside their facility it's always so clean. I went to the Wizard a few years back to purchase a teacup chihuahua. I saw a really cute one online so I made an appointment to see him. When I got there, they brought me a totally different chihuahua and tried to tell me it was the same one. Anyway, this poor little thing stood as stiff as a statue and would not move a muscle. It wouldn't even look around, it just stared straight forward. I spent about 20 minutes with that dog to see if he would warm up, but he wouldn't budge. He looked traumatized. I also didn't like the fact that I couldn't see how and where the puppies were being cared for. I just had an uncomfortable feeling there and so I went to Teacups Puppies, and the atmosphere was just amazing. Total opposite of the WOC. I now have 2 dogs from them, both chihuahuas. One is 4 lbs. and 3 years, the other is 3 lbs. and 2 years. Never any health problems - except my 3 pounder was born with a slight open fontanelle which they pointed out to me in the store. So I read up on that and it just so happens that open fontanelles are far too common - especially in Chihuahuas - to be considered a serious health concern because it doesn't cause any health problems later in life, unless they fall on their head - which shouldn't happen any way. But I am very happy with my 2 babies nonetheless. I realize that all puppy stores must get their puppies from brokers in order to constantly have puppies, but what I don't understand is: if everything is up to code, and everyone has the proper licensing including the breeders, brokers, and the pet stores, then why is everyone against the pet stores? You should really be against the USDA because according to them everything about these pet stores is done by the books - except the WOC obviously. But I watched the news special right before Christmas about the inspector who checked out puppy stores in South Florida, and most of them passed the test. USDA's standards are just way too low. Think about it...breeders still have their licenses because technically, they're not breaking any laws. If the breeders weren't licensed, the brokers would be risking their own license by dealing with them, so you know they're licensed. I think the real problem is the law. If USDA was a little more strict and inspected a little more frequently, I don't believe there would be half as many puppy mills as there are now. That's how pet shops like the Wizard stay in business, because the law is terrible. Don't get me wrong, I am entirely against puppy mills. It's just heartbreaking to see what they put these animals through. But not EVERY breeder that goes through a broker is a puppy mill. And I think they ruin it for the rest of them. And I believe if USDA was a little more strict on their rules and regulations, then pet shops would be getting their puppies from clean, licensed breeders, who remain working with those brokers. You can't just target the pet shops. You have to target the problem as a whole. And the problem starts within the law. That's only my opinion. Keep trying though, I wish you all the best of luck on shutting these jerks down. It's about time!
