WIZARD OF CLAWS VICTIMS PLAN DEMONSTRATION

People who have been sold sick puppies by WIZARD OF CLAWS - a South Florida pet store accused of unconscionable and misleading business practices, are planning a demonstration on Saturday, March 11 from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm in front of the store at 9101 Taft Street, in Pembroke Pines, FL. They will be joined by other animal lovers to protest the store's sale of "puppy mill" puppies.

Although Wizard of Claws has told customers that their puppies were from "reputable" breeders, in reality the puppies were obtained from large scale commercial breeding facilities in the midwest, commonly known as a "puppy mills", where animal welfare concerns are wholly secondary to profits.

Typical puppy mills have hundreds of dogs which are bred every time they go into heat. The sole purpose of puppy mill operators is profit, so dogs are bred without any regard to their genetic quality, and housed in substandard conditions where they spend their entire lives in cages, without proper exercise, nutrition or veterinary care.


Puppy mill puppies often suffer health and behavioral problems because of their poor breeding, lack of socialization and unsanitary mill conditions. These puppies are sold by pet stores to unsuspecting consumers that get their wallets lightened and their hearts broken when their new puppy gets deathly ill or develops genetic defects that require expensive veterinary treatment, treatment that pet stores routinely refuse to pay for in spite of legal requirements to the contrary.

The pet store has been sued by disgruntled customers many times, and a website, www.stopwizardofclaws.com, is dedicated to informing people about Wizard of Claw's tactics.

This demonstration is being conducted in accordance with the City of Pembroke Pines laws as they pertain to peaceful demonstration. Sticks are not recommended and loud speakers are not permitted. There can be no blocking of traffic and driveways, and the store employees and the general public may not be prevented from entering or exiting. The City is being notified in advance.

The purpose of this demonstration is to promote public awareness about the puppymill/pet store atrocities that are occurring here within our local communities. As many know, Wizard of Claws Pet Store has made the news on several occassions. Most recently with the NBC 6 investigative series as well as the Broward/Dade New Times. NBC 6 has been rewarded for their efforts of exposing these puppymill puppy pushers, as now the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has joined forces and is seeking to become a part of a “class action” lawsuit that had previously been filed against WOC.
Some of those who will be in attendance have purchased sick puppies that have since been cured at an enormous costs. Some of those in attendance may have purchased one puppy only to receive an entirely different one. Then there are some whose puppies cannot be cured and will remain crippled or on medications for the rest of their life, as well as some of those that have lost their puppies to diseases after watching them suffer. Then there will be those who never had any ties to WOC, yet they will be there for their love of the dogs. We anticipate a fair amount of media coverage for this demonstration, and need everyone that can attend.
WOC claims to be perhaps the largest seller of puppies in the country, as they do an enormous amount of business via the internet. They also claim to purchase from a select group of breeders. Please join us, as we would like to educate the public about puppymills and pet stores. Those of you who are affiliated with a rescue group might want to bring one or two of your dogs or puppies that are up for adoption, so the public can see that there are many dogs that need loving homes. I was very happy that CNN did a story on WOC. It will hopefully make many people aware and spare them the pain so many of us and our dogs have had to go through. HOWEVER, I did not understand why they only focused on WOC as an online puppy service! We live 20 minutes away from WOC and our dog was near death! Puppies are sold sick not only to online purchase, but more disturbingly to purchasers within the same town!

I think what this site needs is an additional page educating the public on backyard breeders and designer dogs.

I noticed that the woman who started the site was suing for problems related to her "teacup" pug not being under 8 lbs. (amoungst other things). Pugs are already miniature Mastiffs and the AKC recognizes weights from 14-18 pounds for show quality animals. Variations may occur around these weights for pet quality animals. Yet, the general concensus is that 'bigger is better'.

No reputable breeder would ever advertise their animals as "teacup". Hence, I believe, the problems she experienced with the ownership of her particular animal, could have been avoided with sufficient education and information prior to buying the animal.

Because of the recent attention to this site, others looking to purchase a pet may also benefit from such information regarding backyard breeders, proper pet purchasing channels, and how to ensure the animal you are getting will be a healthy and happy animal.

I also bought a Tea Cup Yorkie from this place, I like every one else bought a very sick dog and have spent close to $10,000 in medical bills, unfortunately I do not know the exact medical terms due to the fact that my girlfriend spent 2 years taking this dog to 6 different Vet's and 4 different specialists but what I do know Is my credit Card bills piled up... My dog is almost 3 years old now and does not even weigh 2 pounds, but I love him and I don't care if it costs me another $10,000 to keep him alive... Its a shame that these people would do this to families, I don't want to say that I regret my decision to buy my little one but I can say that it has put a strain on me financially... I know these SCUMBAGS have no heart but I do, I am a God fearing Man.. I just hate to think what would have happened if my little guy had not fallen into my hands but in the hands of some one less fortunate financially from me taht would not have been able to give him this medical care.... SOME ONE PLEASE STOP THESE PEOPLE.....

Two years ago, I bought my Chihuahua from Teacups in Hollywood, Florida, and she was sick from the first day. She had parasites and kennel cough and water in her lungs. She was in the emergency hospital for 6 days. The bill was huge and when I called the woman who owns the place, she said that I should have used her vet and the bill would not have been so big. She wanted to take my puppy back to "make her better" but the woman is not a licensed vet and only wanted to do it so she would not owe me any more money in vet expenses. My puppy ended up getting better after a long fight, and I never received a penny from Teacups.

Then when I got the registration papers for my dog, she came from Missouri like all the other dogs that come from puppy mills do. What a disappointment that was. I love my dog to pieces, but the moral here is don't let fancy advertising make you think you are getting a quality puppy. A private breeder would have cost me far less money and I would have had a healthy dog.

Having fostered over 400 cats and over 120 dogs in ten years, I am appalled and sickened by this company/business. I am glad this website is speaking out against it and hope they eventually get shut down entirely.

I will keep all these pets in my prayers. some people don't deserve animals or kids.

I recently adopted a 3.4 pound malnurshed maltese that had been dumped on the side of the road. She had the number 26 tatoo'd in her ear!!! Evidently she was #26 Maltese female... She is now over 7lbs, but has many problems due to her neglect and overbreeding. These places and brokers need to be shut down!!! Do not buy puppies from Pet Stores and Flea Markets, they literally buy their puppies out of a back of a truck, picking the ones that look the best, which is not saying much for the real state the puppies are in! Please get the word out. SHUT DOWN MILLS AND BROKERS

Okay, I'm a LONG time lover of animals and am SICKENED by the purchase of animals thru online sources. First off I feel that WOC should be shut down and the owners fined for animal cruelty. Secondly, I believe thier lawsuit against the owner of this site has NO merit since, just as in the computer industry where users of hardware have fan sites and hate sites of thier favorite/most hated companies. Those companies are smart enough to not comment on those sites tho as by doing so they credit the hate sites reasons for hating that company.

Truth is tho, even tho I'll stand by this site's owner against WOC happily enough, I HAVE to come down on the victim in this case a little bit also. I'm completely on your side against WOC, but I'm ALSO dissapointed in YOU for buying an animal online! Did you not realize that any online purchase was going to include your loving little creature being shipped thru a HORRID process? It just tears me up when I hear of small creatures suffering because of thoughtless actions. I feel WOC is far worse then thoughtless, they're outright cruel. But my dissapointment in the purchaser of the animals is pretty high too. I can only hope you learned your lesson and will remember that there are small fuzzy ones in your area that need love too, and won't have to be shipped to you.

Please say you've learned a lesson from this, and I will be satisfied that the main culprit is WOC. But tell me your willing to continue purchasing animals online to be shipped to you, and I say your every bit as bad as them. I'd much rather think the former of you...

I find it amazing that many people will give more thought to a purchase of shoes than the purchase of a life companion. It can't be said often enough: Buy AKC, check out the breeder with AKC, see the purchased puppy and parents in person and ask for references from other satisfied puppy buyers. AKC too expensive? Gosh, these people have paid more in veterinary costs than we'd ever ask for a puppy.

We HAD to return the first 2 dogs from WOC. The first was so agressive, our vet insisted it go back. Second dog, we were assured it was a hypo-allergic dog. Jim told me anything mixed with a poodle would not create dander allergies. WRONG! When my husband returned it, Jim had my husband in his 6 X 6 ft. office, with his face in my husband's face screaming at my husband. (My husband is 62 years old and has never in his life been afraid of getting beat up, until he met Jim.) After, Jim gave my husband an ultimatum, my husband gave Jim one. My husband said, "Since I'm not returning my wife, who is allergic to this dog, you have no choice but to take this dog back."

Third dog is sweet but NOT teacup, as promised. We paid $2000 and have had a very, very disappointed 6 year old daughter who had to give 2 dogs back. Next month will be a year that we've had dog #3. We will never go back and are ashamed that we didn't look into company first.

I BOUGHT MY YELLOW LAB SUNNY AT WIZARD OF CLAWS. WHEN MY WIFE PICKED HER UP SHE SEEMED FINE. BY THE TIME I GOT HOME THAT EAVNING SHE WAS COUGHING BUT STILL SEEMED TO BE A HAPPY PUPPY. LATER THAT NIGHT I WOKE UP TO HER COUGHING. IT WASN'T TOO BAD SO I WENT BACK TO SLEEP. THA NEXT DAY I WOKE UP AND SHE WAS COUGHING BADLY AND HAD GREEN STUFF COMING OUT OF HER NOSE. I CALLED WIZARD OF CLAWS AND THEY SAID IT WAS A MINOR CASE OF KENNEL COUGH AND JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT SHE DRANK A LOT OF WATER AND SHE WOULD BE FINE. TWO DAYS LATER I WAS AT WORK AND MY 7 MONTH PREGNANT WIFE CALLS ME CRYING HYSTARICALY CRYING THAT SHE THINKS THE PUPPY WAS DYING. SO SHE RUSHED HER DOWN 1 AND A HALF HOURS TO THE WIZARD OF CLAWS. THEY SENT HER TO THEIR VET ANOTHER HOUR AWAY. WE LEFT THE PUPPY THERE FOR A WEEK AT WICH TIME THEY TOLD US THAT SHE WAS FINE. WE BROUGHT HER HOME AND SHE SEEMED FINE FOR ABOUT TWO HOURS BEFORE SHE STARTED COUGHING AGAIN. MY WIFE WENT OUT THE NEXT DAY WHILE I WAS AT WORK AND MY SISTER IN LAW CAME OVER TO FEED SUNNY. SHE CALLS ME CRYING AND TELLS ME THAT SUNNY IS BARLEY BREATHING AND THAT SHE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW IF SHE WILL MAKE IT TO THE VET. SO I SENT HER TO A LOCAL VET IN BOCA RATON. THEY TOLD ME THAT SHE GOT THERE JUST IN TIME AND THEY STILL DIDN'T KNOW IF SUNNY WOULD MAKE IT THROUGH THE NIGHT. I HAD MY PREGNANT WIFE CRYING FOR THREE DAYS BECAUSE THE VET TOLD US THAT SUNNY HAD SUCH A BAD RESPERITORY INFECTION THAT SHE ONLY HAD A 30% CHANCE OF LIVING. THE WIZARD OF CLAWS OFFERED TO TAKE HER BACK AND GIVE US ANOTHER PUPPY BUT WE KNEW SUNNY WAS JUST ANOTHER NUMBER TO THEM AND THAT SHE WOULD HAVE 0% CHANCE OF LIVING IF WE DID SO WE KEPT HER. WELL THE VET WE TOOK HER TO WAS GREAT SO ALMOST TWO WEEKS AND WELL OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS LATER WE GOT SUNNY BACK. STILL NOT 100% BUT IMPROVING. SHE'S BEEN OK SO FAR AND WE LOVE HER. HOWEVER IN LOOKING THROUGH HER PAPERS THE OTHER DAY I NOTICED THAT HER BREEDING PAPERS HAD A BLOOD LINE ON THEM ENDING IN WHAT WAS SUPPOSIVELY HER. BUT THE DATE OF BIRTH WAS IN 2002. I purchased a puppy from WOC as a Christmas gift. Followed all of their rules regarding taking to their Vet within a week period for an exam. Their Vet said he was fine, within three days of that visit he became extremely sick (vomitting, non-responsive). We took him to my own Vet, with papers in hand, and was told that he had Parasites, and the paperwork showed he was on medications, while we purchased him. They never told us, never gave us any medication, so the situation for the puppy became deathly. He stayed in the emergency clinic for a week.
How could they be so irresponsible not to tell us he was still sick?, not even give us medication he was currently on?
I tried to get WOC to pay for clinic bills, to no avail. They agreed, but never followed through. Just created a huge paperwork mess. Any idea where I can go to join this lawsuit?, as I have papers to show the pupy was sold while on medicine, without forwarding that information to me. Being that I have papers, I would hope it could help shut them down. Also, I paid $1300 for a "Tea-Cup" and he became 11 pounds, and isn't even a year old yet.Thanks for the fight and listening.

I am just sick, my heart is breaking after reading this website. We just purchased a 10 week old White Shepherd from WOC 5 days ago, we had NO idea about the history of the place or owners. My family went there after looking on their website and we were engaged, we ran right over and purchased our new addition.

So far he has been wonderful, but I am sick to my stomach to think what he has gone through. I am heart broken that he might get or be sick. I took him to a local Vet and he was given a clean bill of heath 4 days ago, but now that I have seen this website, I am so scared for him.

These "people" lied to us, their website lied to us. The one good thing to come out of this, is knowing that we rescued our new puppy. I only wish we could resuce all of them.

Does anyone know about this so-called Breeder: Herbert & Jana Hanson, Kewanee, MO. 63860. I have tried doing searches, but I am not getting much information.

I sat and counted over 200 dogs in their website. They claim, per their website, that these are all dogs in their kennel--unlike others who claim they have a dog but don't. How big a facility must one have to house 200 dogs? I have three dogs and I do a lot of clean up and it's time consuming with 3 dogs...there's no way that a group of a dozen employees, if that, can handle 200+ dogs. This is awful!

After all of this controversy with WOC, I now wonder if my puppy is a yorkie or silky terrier.How can I found out his breed? I know longer trust anything that comes out of that place. I've heard that they have sold silkies as yorkies and they sell them cheaper. I will never recommend anyone to go there, their whole operation is very bazaar. My dog fortunately has not had any health issues but he is a little crazy, he acted very weird for the first 72 hours but then has been destructive ever since, no training has corrected his behavior. I'm convinvced he had some type of traumatizing experience there. Also, his certifcate says he came from Argentina, how accurate do you think that is?

I have been replying to some of the messages posted on this website. I have decided to post my problems I have had with WOC. My husband purchased for my birthday a "Mini Bull Terrier". Max now weighs approximately 76 pounds give or take a few. He was diagnosed with hip displcaya (sp) before he turned the age of one. He also has had to have surgery on both knees before his turned one wherein he had to have pins put in both knees they had to shorten some muscles and break the bones in his legs to get him so that he could walk and run without limping and being in pain all of the time. According to the doctor he was born with this. He as severe allergies and we had to take him to an allergist and run all of the test take oral meds and now is on allergy shots once a week which are not working and we have to go back to try something else. His feet are supposed to be white and they are bright red and had very flakey skin. Also Max has OCD which he is now on prozac to see if that will help. It does a little but not like we had hoped. He still will rquire another visit or more to the behavorist to see what else can be done for him. Wizard of Claws offered to take Max back. By then we were too attached to him and could not do it. After many phone calls and letter writing. They compensated us $500.00 for the hips. This does not even put a dent in the medical bills for him. I have requested information on the breed which they would not disclose to me. We take both of our pets to Dr. Bellows and never had a problem with his treatment of our pets; however I am seriously considering changing vets due to his association with WOC. Its wrong. I wish we had done our home work when looking for a puppy. We sure learned a hard lesson.

Two dozen protesters -- they call themselves pet lovers -- picketed Saturday at Wizard Of Claws, accusing the Pembroke Pines-based pet store of selling sick dogs or dogs with genetic defects.

"We bought three dogs from Wizard Of Claws -- all three on the same day. Over $6,000 in dogs. Each one of them had a problem," said Amanda Diaz, a Wizard Of Claws customer.

"We've had several problems, thousands of dollars worth of medical bills and he has been put through a lot," said customer Jamie Grimes.

During an NBC 6 investigation, we traced some Wizard of Claws dogs to two Midwestern breeding operations. Experts call them puppy mills where disease and genetic defects are a higher risk.

"I want to create public awareness about puppy mills, and show where they come from and how they get to pet stores," said Leslie Finkelstein.

Our investigation found 275 unhappy customers in 34 states, Mexico and Canada. Most claim their dogs got very sick soon after buying them.

As part of the public response to the controversy, the man who runs Wizard Of Claws said he'd no longer buy dogs from the two breeders investigated in our series. But NBC 6 has learned that he has, in fact, not severed those ties.

Tracking purchases on a website, Wizard Of Claws recently bought a Maltese for $650 from Puppy Trax -- the same breeding facility we investigated. In fact, the man at the door is the husband of the owner who is seen holding the very dog purchased by Wizard Of Claws and listed as soon available for sale.

There's no indication he is still buying dogs from the other breeder we investigated.

Earlier Jim Anderson, who runs Wizard of Claws, said this:

"Isn't it a fact that you are buying dogs from puppy mills?" reporter Jeff Burnside asked Anderson.

"Not with my belief. No."

"But you're implying to your customers you do know where your dogs are coming from."

"I'm not implying to my customers. Most customers don't really ask, most don't really care."

During the protest, Wizard Of Claws closed. But posters covered every window with angry responses to critics and to the NBC 6 report.

Jim Anderson did not return our call, but has said he has many happy customers, gives refunds and pays vet bills as required by law and his business remains strong.

Hello Everyone,

How did the protest today go? I wish I could of been there but I had to work. But I really wanted to go. Both my sisiter and my dog were sick as puppies when we bought them from WOC. She has a private attorney on the matter her dog almost died. She paid $5000 to keep her alive. bout her surviving is pricless. She trult is an Angel. My dog recouperated within a few weeks and although I spent close to $500 on vet bills he was also well worth it.

I hope that everyone's puppies are doing well. Any other word on Dr. Bellows and his hand in all this? Does anyone know if WOC has the same staff? They are just as guilty for not reporting what they know. We all know they know unethical confidential information. I am thinking of going in there to see who still works there?

Are there any plans for another protest? Let me know I will post the date on my work web site. In addition come ran or come shine I will be there with my little Pomeranian. And so will my sister.

WOC also goes by Elite Puppies. My husband purchased a mini daschund for me for Valentines Day. I had to leave her at the vert the very next day due to severe dehydration, vomiting, malnuttition, diarrhea and pnuemonia. We have incurred over $1200 in vet bills to date and she is still not 100% well. We have informed WOC that if they do not reimburse us we will take them to court. I have contacted Pembroke Pines PD, Broward County Sherriffs Office, TV6, and the state departments. We were informed by TV6 that the "Picture Framing" store that our puppy was brought out from was the pet store sick bay! I am no where NEAR finished with WOC. I am sorry for all of you and your pets that have suffered due to the inconsideration and cruelty of these terrible people.

I currently have a pomeranian puppy I purchased from WOC he was sick and I did aquire some vet bills. However he is the joy of my life and I feel as if I rescued him from these dirtbags. My sister also purchased a sick puppy. But I have the financial means to pay if I purchase another puppy that is sick. But now I want to get my dog a plat mate. I recently gave a deposit with WOC on February 25, 2006 and was very impressed with their ability to locate any type of dog I wanted. They said they wouldn't be a problem filling my unique request for finding my puppy, so I agreed and gave them a $250.00 "non-refundable" deposit. In the beginning of March I needed to ask my "sales person" a question and found out she was fired/quit her position, so I began to question what was going on with this place. This certain "sales person" quoted that she would absolutely be there when we were supposed to pick the puppy up in May of 2006, so "why did she quit", ironically I started searching WOC online and found so much useful information about the WOC and the lawsuits pending, so I decided to "forfit" my deposit. *************NOTICE********** I surrendered my deposit under my own terms, but I wasn't at a total loss, because I asked If I could use my deposit in their "botique" and they didn't have a problem with that at all. Everything worked out thanks to all the press and comments posted in this blog. Thanks everyone for you help and please fight for you deposit if you have a dog on order. Shut them down!

I have loved animals especially dogs, from the time I was 5years.I came to United States in 2000.I was deciding on having a pet for a very long time,I used to feel nice to visit pet cares spend time with the pets and also was waiting for a perfect time to adopt one.During my last visit to south florida I had been to WIZARD OF CLAWS ,I hate that place it killed me,I had no power then to resolt back about that palce.The pups look malnourished ,I feel sad to talk about that place I have been to many more pet cares `they have been quite decent ,well this place needs to be shut down!.
It was happy to know the truth is out about that place ,I hope some sincere action is taken against these kinds a pet stores and puppy mills ,they need to be shut down or if kept working then rules and regulations should be enforced for the full treatment ,love ,care of these beautiful animals.
A Hindu mythology says dogs are decenders of gods among Indian gods ,if this sounds conventional then all I know is dogs are a" mans best friend" and my heart and soul.

Thank you so much for all of your efforts. WOC must be stopped. Anderson is no better than Jeff Dane (out of the Dallas, TX area). These people are puppy millers/brokers. It's sickening, the operations that they run and these poor individuals, that do not do their homework to find out about these guys, end up with the heartache.

SICK PUPPIES...PUPPIES WITH HEREDITARY DISEASES AND FAULTS...all must be stopped.

Since we all know Jim Anderson is a lying sociopath, instead of relying on the paperwork you received with your dog, you can track the microchip # and this will tell you a lot of information.
First of all, this will ONLY work if you have not had the microchip registration information changed to your name and address.
Secondly, DO NOT RELY on the microchip# on your paperwork. Have your Vet scan the microchip that is physically in the dog's body. I say this because my puppy's microchip # that was on her paperwork was completely different than the number in her body. The microchip # on her paperwork was registered to a male Bassett Hound. She was a female Havanese!!! Not even close!
The two microchip companies Anderson's "breeders" (and I use that term loosely) use are AVID Microchip Corp. and Home Again Microchip Corp.
AVID's # is (800)336-2843 / Home Again's # is (866)738-4324.
Home Again only sells microchips in bulk to Veterinarians, AVID sells to brokers, breeders, etc... (Try AVID first because about 98% of dogs purchased through PBT Marketplace are microchipped by the "breeders".)

When you are on the phone with AVID or Home Again, REMEMBER to get the LOT NUMBER of the microchip in addition to any other information they provide you. You made need this during your second phone call to the Puppy Broker or Veterinarian.

***Keep in mind, the microchip companies will only tell you WHERE the chip was implanted. For instance, I was told my puppy was from a Florida breeder and when I called AVID, her microchip had been implanted at one of the country's largest Puppy Brokers called Lake Country Pets in Atoka, Oklahoma.***


The rest is up to you to make more phone calls and ask probing questions. Don't be afraid to think outside the box when making these phone calls.

I am now 16 years old but when i was 12 my parents told me I could get a dog because i worked so hard in school. I had always wanted a dog and never got them to say yes until then. Anyways, the first place we went to was WOC and they brought out 4 dogs, one of which was a maltese who was laying down in the corner looking sad and lonely. Of course, this being my first opportunity at having a dog i had to have one RIGHT NOW and not later. I couldnt wait! My mom said not to get him but i did anyways becuase i thought he was sad and wanted a family. When we got home he got very sick and wouldnt do anything like play or anything. All he did was lay down and sleep. He also pooped blood and thats when we knew something was wrong. I named him Beau and everything and my dad said we had to take him back. I said no but my dad called anyway. At first WOC refused to take Beau back but than my dad threatened sueing them and thats when they gave in. I was very upset! About a week later i was over Beau enough to go and continue to look for another dog. We came accross this place called Teacups where I purched a happy and crazy puppy. Shes a girl and I named her Ginger. I really wanted a Teacup puppy but teacups was kind enough to be honest and say she was a border line puppy and probably would be bigger than a teacup. I wanted Ginger anyways. They even have to have the dog stay 2 more days so a vet can come a check the dog out to make sure shes not sick. Two days later I brought 10 week old Ginger home. She has been with us for 4 years and is now 3 and a half years old. Shes my heart and soul. I still remember Beau sometimes and Beau is what inspired me to want to become a vet. I love dogs and I want to help them all.

Reading this is heartbreaking. Let's stop talking and do something about it. I've known about these puppy mills for years, they've been exposed on 20/20 but it continues. And I cannot understand why. "Why" is all about money and we know that. Watching the interviews with Jim Anderson just makes me sick because you can see on his face and hear in his voice that he does'nt care about anything but making money. He has no conscience! I am all for Wizard of Claws being shut out by the State!!! I have been inside their "store" and have seen them mislead customers into the belief that they are buying a specific dog when in fact they are purchasing a mutt of some sort. I think the puppy place is filthy and disgusting.
I have been a long time customer of Dr. Jan Bellows and all of my 3 yorkies have been long time patient's of him. I believe he is no longer their Vet for specific reasons being that he has been exposed to what WOC is truly like, he is not the type of person nor Doctor that would practice "backwards" medicine.
Dr. Bellows has the respect of all of his customers and the true care one should look for in a Veterinarian. He has saved one of my dogs life and you can't let that pass by without being noticed. He is a board certified Vet whom is highly respected by his peers, friends, and customers. That should say a lot. I would not trust any other Doctor with my dogs in fear that they would perform so-called "backwards" medicine. Dr. Jan ', truth, integrity, intelligence and performance speaks for itself, that goes a long way considering there are so many "drive-thru" vets available now. Wizard of Claws should be shut down, and the man that owns that sick example of a puppy palace should be in jail. I don't know how he sleeps at night.
However, Dr. Jan Bellows and his staff at Hometown Animal Hospital should not be mistreated or bad-mouthed. Just Wait untill your pet has a terrible accident or just becomes extremely unhealthy, you will then see what Veterinarians can actually perform to the highest standards and are not only there to care for your pet as if it was their own, but care for their customer as well, making sure they recieve the highest standard of care. You should go to the clinic and actually sit down with Dr. Bellows before passing such judgements and cruel comments on a message board.
** Believe me I am all for getting involved in shutting down Wizard of Claws, however I feel that respect should be given where it is deserved.

I just watched the WOC investigation on NBC6's website. As a lifelong dog owner, I was appalled. How are these puppy mills allowed to operate ANYWHERE in the US? It is time for harsher legislation. I myself do not get dogs from pet stores or specialty stores. I got my pup from Pets In Distress. Believe there are too many dogs that are unwanted and need love. I am so glad this is happening,it's great that the HSUS has joined too. I am just going to ramble a little bit about my opinions on the situation... I think there is a little too much emphasis on the sick pup aspect. We need to look at the reasons they are sick - breeding for traits like extra smallness, no health screening of parents, stress associated with early and abrupt weaning - and these are all things pet store owners know about, regardless of if they've been to the actual commercial breeder or not. People who got healthy pups from them should also be outraged because they were duped into supporting this whole sordid business. Not to mention royally ripped off.

ALL pet stores get their pups from brokers - there are NO good ones. Anyone who doesn't follow the AKC guidlines that someone posted below is not a responsible breeder and should not be supported financially. They have the ultimate marketing tool- the cute puppy. I purchased my Pomeranian puppy from WOC in September of September 2005. The moment I saw him it was love. Two days later my puppy refused to eat and was coughing. He also had severe diarreha. I know Dr. Jan Bellows and refuse to allow him to ever touch one of my pets. He is a salesman not a doctor. Therefore I rushed Austin to my own vet Dr. Thomas Sessa at Hollywood Animal Hospital. At which time Dr. Sessa took me into the lab at the hospital to let me see that Austin was infested with parasites which he beleived came from contaminated water. He placed Austin on Flagyl for that. In addition Austin also had kennel cough and he was put on Clavamox to treat that. Austin was 3 months old when I purchased him and placing a puppy this young on these meds concerned me. Well after being on antibiotics for three weeks he was better. However on January 29, 2006 I rushed Austin to Hollywood Animal Hospital again. His head was bobouling oddly up and down. The vet on call examined Austin and told me that he had a heart murmur. She then tested his glucose and his sugar was extemely low. He is hypoglycemic which is from the parasites he had as a youngster. Bringing Austin back is not an option. And I do not even care if I am reimbursed for my vet bills. He is my little angel and I love him with all my heart. But I would like to save others from going through the samething. I cannot imagine the pain a parent must go through watching their child suffer and the puppy suffering that is double the pain. How do you explain that to your child? This guy must be stopped. What will it take? Animals are like humans to me and this is murder. Politicans should be ashamed of themselves for not getting more involved. My personal thanks go out to the entire Humane Society for their support. I have been a supporter for the Humane Society for along time and I will continue my efforts to financially support their causes.

But on last note. Remember there is a thing called Karma...and the are (WOC) are bound to get theirs. Remember animals are Gods children to.

I was looking on the site earlier today and saw something that made me sick to my stomach.

The video shows Animal planets heros discussing about how they fight to save lives of animals from being abused and etc... at the very end they mention to go to wizard of claws website to get something free.. I was shock to see such ad! Is this video really real? Or is this fake? How can Animal planet do this?!?!?
