Hello.
My name is Teryl Owings. I am a graduate student at the University of Colorado, currently pursuing graduate degrees in both Human Psychology and Traditional American Music. Both my parents are Dan Fogelberg fans, so I was raised listening to Dan's music. I began taking guitar lessons at age 12, and by the time I graduated high school, I was performing about three dozen of Dan's songs. Today, the number is double that.
When the "Full Circle" CD was released, I began to receive Reach Haven Postcards, a postcard with a sailing ship upon it, and on the reverse side, all the sender wrote was "I wish you were here." Three such cards came the first month after the release of the album. I showed the cards to my friends, made a big deal of it, and let them listen to the song, if they were not already familiar with it. Several of the friends whom I showed cards later sent me sent me cards qualifying as Reach Haven Postcards.
The purpose of this post is to tell you about this fun little event in my life, to ask readers here whether they have such similar experiences and, if so, to post here that experience. I would like to write a pre-thesis paper for my Human Psychology degree on this subject, if my subject content is approved by my Faculty Advisors.
If you choose to post, please feel free to post as much or as little information as you wish. I appreciate any help with this proposed project, and you will receive appropriate credit when my paper is published. If it is not published for my coursework, I will nevertheless publish a paper on the subject, even if I write only about the dozen or so cards I received.
Thank you all for your help.
Thanks, Dan, for writing the fun song. I know you probably don't read here, but thanks anyway.
Teryl
