well lets put it this way, I have had Platies for less than a month and they popped out with 2 fry :-), the guy at the pet shop said that it having should only take a few days depending on the water condition. My platies aren't in a tank with a heater as I bough them from a cold water tank (although the room is pretty warm though). As for the equipment, i have a tank that came with a filter/pump, fake log, plant, gravel, conditioner and fish flakes. Platies can have HEAPS of babies, you can tell because underneath is dark (the eyes of the fry) and it stays close to the bottom, and mine looked like it was doing some sort of 'jig' :-). Oh yeah Platies don't lay eggs, they are live bearers.
