I have also had a # of elephant noses. the first one, Snuffeluffigas, lived in his own 10 galon tank, by himself. He was pretty smart, but seemed lonely. When I bought the tank, rocks temperature, filter, and fish at 12:45 at night in a city that was 90 min from where I lived. I saw the fish and hAD to buy it. Big mistake, for someone who didn't know much about fish. It was a walmart. After 1 1/2 months, I decided it was time to move on to a 29 galon, which was a mistake. I bought, put together, and put the fish in all in the same night. The elephantnose faught like the last time and pulled through. He was a tough little guy. After I got the tank going, one trip to walmart was bad. I bought like 15 fish in one day, and exautic ones to. After a while I realized the elephant nose was shy and looked like he was goinh to comit scuicide. In a matter of days I found a pink dead elephantnose. I went through 2 more elephants before I stopped. I am planning on getting a new one later. This is what I learned about this amazing fish.............
1. It would be good if-
10 galon with another elephant
10 galon tank with a baby whale
10 gallon thank with 1 or 2 platties.
Elephant liked to be loved and like all the attention... I think they die from depression. If you get one of these fish make sure you keep the temp at around 81, they do better in warm watter, and don't buy them in the winter or from walmart, these fish are caught in the wild and don't do good in the winter, bearly survive in the wild, and after getting shipped around will probebly die. These fish also get diseases easly, and Walmart is a disease farm, order one at www.aquariumfish.net or www.fishsuplies.com..................you can only learn from this fish by experiance-maby this will prevent some deaths?
