If untreated Ick KILLS the fish in a week!

Elephant nose are scaleless fish. Witch means that they are very sensitive to chemicals. What you need to do in case of ick is raise the water temp above 81 and add Aquarium salt to the tank (not table salt please).
Since they are very sensitive fish you also have to keep a close eye on PH and amonia and nitrates all the time.
