>Elephant nose fish need a ph of 7.0 They need lots of vegetation because they eat plants as well as blood worms and tubifex worms. Also the lighting either needs to be dim or give the fish a place to hide out like a bin laden cave .ha-ha The temp. needs to be constant around 79-81. also it does not do well with its own species. Its kind towards others but not to his own kind. My elephant is in a 55 gallon tank with a ph of 6.8. Other fish that live with him are clown loach, emerald green cory, neon tetras, red eye tetras, otocinculus, gouramis, and thats about it. One thing about ph that I have learned over the past year is that even if a fish needs a certain ph you can give a different ph . Example like the elephant likes 7.0 yet I have 6.8 Or I could give a ph of 7.2 Yet it is better to be softer than harder. But once you establish a ph YOU HAVE TO REMAIN AT THAT PH !!!! So introduce a buffer so the ph doesnt wander around. I have a large peice of drift wood that keeps the water soft. Anyways enjoy the elepantnose. They are not as hard as people say they are. If you love fish and take care of the right there will be no problem. All I can say is inform yourself, test it out, and stick with what works best. Enjoy!
