"interesting thought. would you erase anyone if you
could? "
~~ I don't think I would erase anyone either, but I would maybe cut down on the amount of time of my life I spent with them. Like after a long term relationship, I have found myself saying why did I waste so much time with that person. Anyway I'm sure this is off topic, because I haven't watched the film. I will need to now.

Re: eternalsunshine -- 23, 14:52:25 01/24/06 Tue [1]
Definitely not a thing I would erase.
I've had painful experiences like everyone, but I think they've helped to create who I am.
And I like me.
Yeah, I was surprised/happy to see Mr. Cross in there as well. He is teh awesome.
I liked all the twists as well. Kirsten Dunst's character's relationships with the two different guys. The depth of backstory there that we just get a glimpse of did a great deal to place this whole concept in a setting (the doctor and his wife, etc.). I just really dug it. I saved it on my DVR and I've watched it a couple of times now.
I also thought it was so interesting to hear their recordings of what they hated about eachother and how they reacted to that. And the fact that their accusations were all true, but that people aren't defined by their shortcomings. We all have them and if you just listed everything bad about yourself you would sound like a despicable person, but we're all so much more than that.
Just a beautiful work of art. Written by Charlie Kauffman & directed by a first-time movie director (usually does music videos) Michel Gondry. I'm really curious to see what he does next.

Re: eternalsunshine -- chrys, 15:15:35 01/24/06 Tue [1]
oh lump, i vaguely remember you posting about the one that slipped away before. i think sometimes that happens, and sometimes everything's right but the timing, you know? i was thinking of that when kate w. says to jim c that she wished she'd known him when he was a little kid, because in reality that might not have been good. i have a good friend who's recently married and she and her dude were discussing something like that, like they'd wished they'd known each other earlier, or in high school (they are both in their early thirties now), but then concluded later that if they had, the timing and their personal developments would have been off, and they might not be together now.
they say, so i've heard or read, that you attract what you're ready for, like if you have really shitty self-esteem, you'll probably attract someone that isn't very nice to you and won't treat you right, or something like that. i guess it makes sense, like you project in a way how you feel about yourself and others pick up on it. i read that years ago and i think about it anytime aything comes up with a guy. like even now i wonder what do i project that AJ picks up on and vice versa, cuz we are both odd people in many ways. the thing is also like, okay i haven't been hit on in years, and now that i have this thing going on, it's like i can't escape it! this dude who lives in the trailor on our property won't leave me alone and even some dude (who was singing opiate by tool might i add) was flirting w/me in the grocery store. so i wonder if i am just feeling more confdent or something, and ppl are picking up on that?
okay i am way off topic but my point is that sometimes the connection is there but the timing is off, or the life stages are off. my same friend who just got married also before her guy now, had this thing w/some guy who lives in western canada (she's on the east coast) and they felt super super connected, but his life was all fucked up and shit. my point is there are those times you have such a strong connection w/someone, but somehow b/c of circumstance, it just does't make sense to be together. and i don't just mean logical sense, like looking at things all practical, i am good at throwing that shit out the window sometimes, lol, but sometimes it doesn't make heart/emotional sense either.
life is fucking complicated, eh?!
OKAY here is another thought i just had. we've all been saying we wouldn't erase b/c we've learned or grown, and i was thinking the same thing, like the experiences themselves are meaningful. and i was wondering, do you think that's why all the people in the movie who had things erased went back to the person again? watching it i was like, oh how sweet, j and k at the end, but maybe it's not just that, maybe the point is b/c they've erased the experience, they have to repeat it to learn whatever it is.
i mean i was thinking if i erased ppl i might do the same shit over again. just a thought.
anyway i'll leave y'all be for now!

Re: eternalsunshine -- Leo, 19:18:16 01/24/06 Tue [1]
i loved this movie. Didn't realize it was directed by Gondry, that makes it even better for me.
The opening scene on the train and in Montauk are straight out of my life too, so it had me from the beginning.
As far as erasing people from my life, I've been known to say I wasted the last 20 years, someone keeps reminding me thats not the case since I got my 3 children out of it. But even so, I can't help but think, what if?
As far as keeping the experience in order to learn from it, thats the thing I am scared of the most - repeating the same patterns. I definitely have not learned to project the right things yet either.
And another thing Chrys touched on was the right time/right place theory. Sometimes its not, but the connection is strong, which makes it extremely frustrating.
I guess thats life. I need to watch this movie again.
Last but not least - 23, you're trying to have a baby?!?!?!

It's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it.
Yep, the wife and I are finally on the same page on this one. For awhile she was ready and I wasn't. Then I was ready and she wasn't. Now we're both ready.
It's up to the fates at this point.

Thats awesome twan. congrats to you and your wife.
You always hear horror stories, but I for one loved being pregnant, even 60 pounds extra on my skinny ass. Its amazing to see nature take over your body, and realize you're not doing a damn thing, but your body knows exactly what to do, all the way up to the delivery.
I hope you guys enjoy that time, it was very special for me. I also love the names you have picked out.

~~~ OMG Everything you said is so true. Also when the time comes, the mother of all pregnancy books is "What To Expect When You're Expecting". There isn't a question that goes unanswered, it's the best.
Thanks ladies.
And tg, my wife has already read about a dozen books on pregnancy, I wouldn't be surprised if that's one of them.
(and I'm not exaggerating, she's been reading books about it for years)
