Subject: Alice in Chains Touring Again
So I was at the Jerry Cantrell board earlier and someone posted this:
http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=48669
I guess they're going to be touring! I wonder who will be the lead singer they'll bring along. I honestly think that Jerry can pull it off by himself but we'll see. I hope that this doesn't mean we're not going to get his 3rd album. I've been looking forward to that for a long time.

I didn't get to see them when Layne was still around, so I will kill for a ticket this time (although people have been avoiding Cleveland). :)

I would like to see AIC again if they ever do a full blown tour. I know they are joining Heart for a vh1 special and so is Duff McKagan from g'n'r and VR.
Who has been to the Rock'n'Roll Hall Of Fame? and why are the induction ceremonies done in NYC and not Cleveland?
I would love to go to the museum.

I haven't been yet - believe it or not. I was very tempted when they had a Jeff Buckley display, but just haven't. If we EVER have a forum party - we'll do it up there. :)

I've been to the Hall one time and they had a Jimi Hendrix thing going on which was really cool. I think we should go sometime when they have a band there or something. That would be awesome.

I hadn't heard Duff was gonna be there, cool. Dave Navarro is too.
The EMP in Seattle has an awesome Jimi exhibit. They had a wonderful Dylan one too.
I would love to see a Jeff Buckley exhibit. Was that permanent?
I could do Cleveland, when's the party?

OK - If I planned a party well in advance - say summer sometime - who would want to come/could come?

Leo - I don't think so. Their stuff has to be 20 years old or something like that. I think that might have been a small display that came in after that documentary or something. Not sure since I didn't go up and see it.

I remember on the Jeff Buckley website they had pics up of the exhibit.
We have a Jimi Hendrix guitar at our Hard Rock Cafe.
I would go to the party!

Re: Alice in Chains Touring Again -- lit, 08:58:48 02/24/06 Fri [1]
*cough* back on topic *cough*
blabbermouth
"ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell has confirmed to MTV.com that "there will be some ALICE IN CHAINS shows this year — that's a fact." At this point, the guitarist said, all he can really say is that the band is active, and that the remaining members of ALICE — himself, bassist Mike Inez and drummer Sean Kinney — will be taking the stage this summer to perform songs from the band's catalog.
"We're making it up as we go along," Cantrell explained to MTV.com. "It's what we always did in the past. We're writing the book as we live it. We feel confident that we will have a good time and that it's something that will live up to the same level. It's an exploratory thing, and we're just having fun with it. We'd like to go out and play for the people that supported us and love the music as much as we have all these years. We want to celebrate what we did and the memory of our friend." [Referring to late ALICE frontman Layne Staley, who died in April 2002 from a mixture of heroin and cocaine.]
"We have played with some [singers] who can actually bring it and add their own thing to it without being a Layne clone," Cantrell explained, adding that the three remaining AIC members will be meeting with several would-be Staley proxies in the coming months, to front the group at European festival gigs. ALICE IN CHAINS have been listed as one of the acts performing at Austria's NovaRock Festival in June, but the guitarist said nothing's been confirmed yet.
"We're not interested in stepping on [Staley's] rich legacy," Cantrell said. "It's a tough thing to go through. Do you take the LED ZEPPELIN approach and never play again, because the guy was that important?" (In 1980, ZEPPELIN broke up after the death of drummer John Bonham.) "That's the approach we've taken for a lot of years. Or, do you give it a shot, try something? We're willing to take a chance on it. It's completely a reunion because the three of us who're left are back together. But it's not about separating and forgetting — it's about remembering and moving on."
"We're going to go and play the songs one more time," said Kinney. "It seems like the right time, so I figure we'll go out and play a few gigs and see where it goes. I think we might just show up in assorted places in the U.S. in the next few months without much notice and play some clubs and little theaters, and then go to Europe and play these festival gigs. Beyond that, we don't know at this point."
Read more at MTV.com."

Re: Alice in Chains Touring Again -- chrys, 13:09:12 02/24/06 Fri [1]
wow how did i miss this thread?
interesting...would love to see one of those small theater shows.
jerry during his solo tours of 98 and 01 did a whole bunch of alice songs and pretty much pulled off the vocals. but i think there are a lot of songs that might need another vocalist, and J doing backup. his voice is pretty different from layne's and i think w/just him you'd miss some of the layering, etc.
it'll be cool also if they tour as AIC rather than as jerry cantrell. i am not so crazy about degradation trip at all, lol.
hmmm.

Re: Alice in Chains Touring Again -- chico781, 13:21:18 02/24/06 Fri [1]
Yeah, I actually think that Jerry can pull off most of the stuff on his own but there are a lot of songs where two vocalists are needed. It would be amazing to make it to one of those shows but if for some reason it doesn't happen for me, I'll be interested in hearing the recordings.

Re: Alice in Chains Touring Again -- alight, 10:33:45 02/25/06 Sat [1]
billboard.com had this to say:
"The surviving members of Alice In Chains are hitting the road this summer for the first time since frontman Layne Staley's death from a drug overdose in 2002. With Staley, Alice In Chains' last tour was in 1996. Since then, guitarist Jerry Cantrell, bassist Mike Inez and drummer Sean Kinney have only taken the stage together once, at a February 2005 tsunami benefit show in Seattle.
According to Cantrell's official Web site, the lone reunion show confirmed at present is the Nova Rock Festival in Austria on June 28, alongside such heavy-hitters as Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Tool, Queens Of The Stone Age and Massive Attack.
The trio will warm up for its summer dates with a March 10 performance in Atlantic City, N.J., as part of a VH1 "Decades Rock" episode devoted to Heart. For that show, Staley's shoes will be filled by Comes With The Fall singer William DuVall, who also doubles as a member of Cantrell's touring band.
It is understood that while DuVall is in consideration to sing on the summer dates, a final decision has not yet been made."

More tour stuff.
DuVall will be singing, but there will be an open door policy for other musicians. US club show in the works for May. And apparently no lawsuits for Susan here.

i've been playing with this idea in my head, and now it makes more sense than ever, so I'm going to go ahead and make a prediction...
there is one band yet to be announced for the main stage at ozzfest this summer, i don't know if there are any conflicting european dates, but damnit if that band ain't alice in chains!
and i already have my tickets :)

Has anyone checked out the AIC site AliceInChains.com? It's really up to date, and it says they are playing US club dates, but it doesn't mention which ones; it only mentions that all the cities have major league baseball teams. LOL
