Subject: New Music Recommendations
I have a couple
Matt Chamberlain - S/T - very cool instrumental album based around Matt's considerable drumming skills.
Konono No. 1 - Congotronics - The only way that I can describe this is African street musicians playing trance music. These guys formed in the 1970's, and play thumb piano's made out of old car parts. The music has a lot of trance feel to it...which is bizarre considering that these guys have not been exposed to western music.
Critters Buggin - Host - Ok, this one's not new, but it was out of print for a long time. Recently reissued...great album. More awesome music from a Matt Chamberlain project
Wolfnother - Wolfmother - Australia's QOTSA. Not really, but close. I hear more Humble Pie, Small Faces, late 70s doom in their sound than QOTSA...but if you like QOTSA then Wolfmother will be right up your alley.

Love Matt Chamberlain. I'll have to check that out.
And Wolfmother sounds interesting, too.
I'm kinda poor right now, so I haven't bought anything new since I got the new Lanegan/Campbell and Neko Case. Still pretty much obsessed over both, so it's all good.
Plus, Neko is HIZZOT!

If you hit me with an e-mail addy, I might know someone who might have some MP3's sitting in an account somewhere that you might be able to access if you had the login and password...which someone could provide. ;)

Alright, here's an online "mix tape" for those of you who care to download it
Please don't delete the songs until everyone who is interested in checking out these bands has had a chance to do so.
1. go to www.gmail.com
2. login: interstellarob
3. password: khatum
There are 10 songs saved as draft e-mails.
Enjoy :)

Is Wolfmother on the compilation? I saw a clip on the box of one of their songs,[Minds Eye?] and though its not really my thing -retro seventies stuff-it was hard to get the song out of my head.
This from wolfmother.com ..........
~~ As a result "Wolfmother" was incubated in the same room as albums like "Nevermind" and "Rumours". After just two weeks in that cavernous space the band had captured the inspired live performances which would form the backbone of their debut album. They then spent another month elsewhere in L.A. adding the little touches that help make "Wolfmother" such a sprawling beast. And in their downtime they became Champions of every pinball machine in the valley.
Throughout this process Myles, Andrew and Chris remained committed to retaining the raw, emotive punch of their live performances. Everything was directed toward capturing "the perfect feeling" rather than "faultless performance". The result is a record on which reckless abandon and glorious imperfections underpin the most evocative moments.
Dontcha love albums that can capture the 'live' sound of a band? Wonder if the album is as good as they make it out to be?

Still at wolfmother.com listening to songs.
'White Unicorn' is playing now. Reminiscent of the Who, around the Quadrophenia era.
If I'm going to listen to the seventies recycled, this would be it.
I see Wolfmother will be at Lollapalooza and Coachella.
Cool site.

Great recommendations Rob. I heard Wolfmother on the local alternative radio station last evening on my way home from work. WOW! I am excited to hear some good new stuff.

I like this too. I see they're gonna be at the North Star tonight. Why do I always find things like this out at the last minute?
I totally hear that 70s influence, wow, especially in mind's eye. Where am I?
I will definitely check them out at Coachella.
