Subject: Adventure in the Grand Canyon
Someone post me instructions on posting a pic (as I'm technologically disadvantaged) and I'll post a pic!
I got alot of advice before going to the Grand Canyon. Most of it was WRONG!
First of all, why did no one tell me it gets dark at 6:30? I have 'til 9 here at home now, so I just ASS-umed I could drive in the daylight there? I couldn't. By the time I got my rental car (which they upgraded to a 4 wheel drive at no cost...first warning sign) it was pitch black. Driving a Jeep Liberty through mountains I couldn't see (and numerous "ELK - next 45 miles" signs) was not as fun as I was told it would be.
The Grand Canyon was absolutely awe inspiring and beautiful. It would have been a little better if we hadn't been smacked down with a major nasty snow storm. And stuck in a hotel in the middle of the woods. With no heavy coat or boots. We saw it from all the "points" but didn't get to hike at all. My 2 goals were to hike down in and see the sunrise/sunset. I missed both! But really, everyone has to see it at least once. There's no comparison.
I did get to take a horse-drawn carraige ride down Route 66. I couldn't get my kicks though. Had the family with me. LOL. Ya'll know I love history tours.
Then we missed our flight home and got to stay in 85 degree Pheonix for a day. I think my family did this on purpose!
Anyhow - had a great time - it was an adventure. Those that haven't seen it need to ... just not in April! :)

Sounds like it was fun.
I like to call it America's Giant Vagina.
'Cause I'm classy like that.

I almost bought your classy ass a suvenior entitled "Who Pooped in the Woods?" It was a childrens book that logged poop and the type of animal that dropped it. Classic. :)

Re: Adventure in the Grand Canyon -- light, 10:16:12 04/10/06 Mon [1]
Well, you sure got your share of adventure out of the trip, anyway!!
To post photos, go to photobucket.com and set up an account. Then follow their instructions to upload your pix there (it's not too hard).
Copy and paste what's in the TAG box under the picture to post it here.
The photos from straight out of your camera might be pretty big for this site, so if you can size them smaller it could help. Also, if you have a lot of them, it probably would be better to post a link to your album. Sorry to be so, you know, anal.

Yeah, Twan, just like on Curb Your Enthusiasm...the chick with the huge vagina. Watch your cell phones! HA! That show kills me.
Sounds like a fun trip, Jes. I would love to make it there one of these days.

Shit hon! I thought I had that shrunk down enough.
A Light - can you edit that out or make it smaller from an administrative standpoint. Sorry.

I also realized that I hadn't allowed visitors to the photobucket, but fixed that this morning if you all would like to see the rest of the pictures!

Re: Adventure in the Grand Canyon -- chrys, 09:18:54 04/11/06 Tue [1]
wow, sounds cool! did this inspire your decision for your radical sabbatical? travel can do that sometimes, crystallize things better than anything else.
i've never even been to the grand canyon, but that picture gave me immediate nostalgia for northern arizona (btw i thought i told you it was cold, though what you described sounds colder than most aprils there). it's funny how like, just the smallest picture of someowhere can take you back. or that you can even recognize. i feel like i would have felt the same way if you h adn't said where you were or where the pic was from. it's like, places are so unique. sometimes on tv, w/just a shot of a street corner, i 'm like, omg it's seattle, even if it's not a corner i'm familiar with. it's weird like that.
the insanest part is how much the weather changes from that area down to phoenix! as for it not staying light later, i think it has something to do with how far north you are, or something like that, and the fact that AZ doesn't do the time change. now THAT is a pain in the ass.
YAY for adventures!

You, and Garlic, where the only 2 to give me good advice.
I stayed in Williams, which is only like 20 minutes from your old school (I think).
Everyone else said driving was fantastic (flat and 75!) and that it'd be so warm (my best friend thought I was crazy packing light jackets when I ended up having to buy a big mans winter coat (see website - lol!).
I think the next stop is Alabama. Get me some sweet tea and some pecans. :)

That's what they're there for. Like posters, aren't they? I'm using them for computer backgrounds and shiznits too. Yeah, I get to share my vacation with my friends! :)

LMAO!
The Grand Canyon has 5 million visitors a year. Courtney would have to leave the country to get that kinda play!
