Subject: A Pistol piss on FAME.
Now this is something I can understand. Lydon vehemently stood his ground all these years for what he believes in. The Sex pistols drew a lyrical line in the sand. They spelled out exactly where they stood in voice, in deeds, and in interactions with media or fans there was no mistaking the message they were sending.
In walks the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame after passing on them for years they are now offering them an honor for musical excellence. Lydon is taking this as a slap in the face. And he’s not the type not to slap back. I guess I have to admit if he had taken it and gone to the ceremony I would have been very surprised.
Yeah go Lydon!

Or as he says on this video KISS THIS!

You know what John Lydon is just a gameplayer. Really the only reason he is not going is because he's too cheap to pay for the seats. (the money goes to charity). That's my conclusion, he's hardly worth talking about and one album (that I love) doesn't give you this huge voice. Anyway the Sex Pistols were up for nomination a few years ago but weren't chosen at that time, soo? I mean I would want The Ramones or The Clash nominated anyday before The Sex Pistols and that's who ended up getting the nominations. I think John speaks for the rest of the band and it's not fair for them if they want to go. It's like he is keeping the image going a bit too long and that's what this is about. That whole Sex Pistols image was a bit of a farse anyway, supposedly John was a nice guy but opionated. He isn't this over the top character. It would be nice if he took the nomination and said something about what the Pistols did for music, rather than just keeping up the game. Anyway, I'm not giving him a pat on the back for staying the same.

The Sex Pistols were a sham, and I think that Johnny knows that. Nominating PIL would be a much more reasonable thing if the industry had an ounce of sense. The Sex Pistols were all flash and were one of the first acts to really refine sensationalism into an artform. For that alone they should receive some kind of award. Their music was shit, their talent was even more shit, and their legacy is total and complete shit. It is, however, brilliant in that regard. They ended up being 2 decades ahead of what has become of the music industry. I'd like to think that Lydon saw it coming, and that's what the Pistols were all about, but that might be giving him too much credit.

I am sure the money is a factor for him. And as dramatic as he is.... he's pretty much been that same in your face over the top dude (act or not). Really I think even if they gave them all tickets I'd be surprised if they had gone.
As far as him speacking for everyone I am not sure on that. Steve Jones is a DJ on a station here (not sure if his show is syndicated), where he may not come off in the same way Lydon does about it he also seems to be pulling away from the event. I haven't heard/seen any other interviews with Jones about it just waht he said on his show Jonesy's Jukebox. So, I don't know.
Wonder if Steve Jones will talk any more about it on tomorrows show since Lydon was just on Kimmel on Friday night? And BTW his show rocks!

I've heard about Jonesy Jukebox, I thought it was on Sirrus. I would say they don't give a crap about the Hall Of Fame and so they are keeping with the whole "Sex Pistols image" Oddly enough though, when they weren't originally inducted back in 04, Lydon was spewing off about that too. It's like the guy is never satisfied.
I think Rob is kinda right, that Johnny realises what they were about so, he's probaly undeserving.
John Lydons book "No Blacks, No Irish, No Dogs" is an excellent read. He's talks about the Pistols and alot of other things that make perfect sense. Oh and the movie "The Filth And The Fury" is good too. :-)

P.S I was wrong it's No Blacks, No Dogs, No Irish.
He explains about the meaning behind the title, near the end of the book. He's good at saving the best for last. :)

Jonesy's Jukebox is on a station here Indie 103.1 (the saving grace of LA radio IMO)but I always wondered if it was syndicated or played other places, cause it's a good show.
I liked that film, but haven't read the book. I find Lydon's view on race interesting. He says in England there is no color, I don't really buy that. One thing is for sure, they pay a LOT more attention to class there than they do race, but in the end it still separates out most of the bad eggs from the pile. Anyway, I may have to pick that up and check it out. Thanx.

~~~That's the point of the title. You know how in rental properties they may advertise No Smoking or Pets. In England back in the fifties they used to put signs in windows that said no blacks no dogs no irish, it's like they just put it together in one lump sum, it's all included as being racist. Imagine a sign like that today, you would get a brick through your window.
Here's what Ozzy says about being inducted also.
"Howard recalled that Ozzy, who was in New York to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of BLACK SABBATH, once called the supposed honor 'totally irrelevant.' Ozzy replied that his beliefs about The Hall haven't changed, but that he didn't want to spoil the occasion for his former band mates by not showing up. Ozzy added, though, that none of the members of BLACK SABBATH wants to perform at the event, so METALLICA, who will be inducting the band, will play two of their songs instead. "
p.s. It sounds cool that Metallica will be doing Sabbath!
Handwriting analysis: He's depressed! Anyone who rights with a downward slant like that (we'll forget the mistakes) is depressed and/or sad. So sayeth my Uncle the psycologist. I used to really struggle keeping that slant away from my handwriting when writing to my cousins.
All opinion on the Sex Pistols aside...I don't know how they choose who should get into the hall and who doesn't and it RARELY makes sense to my, the layman.
