Subject: dare i post too soon?
one of my original projected dates for finishing the first full-blown editing of my first book was march 15th. i didn't think i'd be able to make that so i pushed it back to the end of the month, BUT here it is, a half hour from midnight and i'm printing out my first printed copy of the finished product. it will go to some special people who will be my first readers, and give me their insight on what's gripping and what gets a little long, and then go back to the editing room. i'm sure after that i'll get someone to line-edit, and who knows from there. but it's written, it's typed up, and i spent two months editing it, and it's done.
i'm having printer trouble, that's the only reason i'm afraid of speaking too soon, but i've saved it like fifteen times on my comp and burned all those to a disk.
ALSO i just got an e-mail from the woman who runs the farmer's market and she said i am definitely officially in. she hasn't heard a word from the other tarot lady (thank god, i disliked her way before i knew she was competition). i'm going to have a booth for tarot readings, and also a table with my writings done up on nice paper. may even sell CDs of my show from last summer if i can get the software to convert it on my comp. there will be so much to do between now and the first weekend in may, but i'm excited to design my 10x10 booth.
btw this full moon in virgo is perfect for me right now. i KNEW earlier today, i was like, i'm being soooo nit-picky and anal, the moon MUST be in virgo. it was hours later that i actually checked.
anyway i feel like having a party and just celebrating for a day or so, doing nothing, getting drunk and/or stoned and being completely irresponsible for a day. perhaps i'll call the boy tomorrow and be like, come celebrate w/me. things seem to be good b/w us btw. a week after i went over there, he invited me over again, and now he's on this kick of calling every day when he wakes up, which is usually like noon, lol. esp after the second night i spent over there, i felt like things are really returning to normal. he told me late that night before we went to bed, "we're such good friends we can call each other any curse word in the book and it's okay," my kind of guy, hahaha.
all right, back to printing, hoping to not sleep until it's done...

well i ran out of paper, and i'm not even halfway done printing, so i guess i'll have to finish tomorrow. it stopped somewhere on chapter ten, out of twenty-six.

Who is your printer? You know, I worked for years as a print buyer. I could probably hook you up with someone who would do a great job for not a lot of money...depending on your budget. :)

Wow! Congratulations! I bet it feels really great to have reached this point with your book. I just started a writing class with a pubbed friend of mine to try and motivate myself to finish one of the three that I have not yet completed. ARghhh. I hope to someday achieve what you have- a COMPLETED manuscript.
Congrats again,
Jennifer

Re: dare i post too soon? -- chrys, 12:49:08 03/15/06 Wed [1]
you get a crack at it after i enter the witness protection program...
no, seriously like i said this is first draft, well first edited draft, and it still has quite the process to go through before it becomes more of a final product. this version has only been edited by me, i need imput from others first.
y'all can read the first chapter though (think some of you already have). it's on my myspace (www.myspace.com/lotusmoonflowering). i may put up another chapter or two in the coming week or so, once i figure out which ones to put up.

Re: dare i post too soon? -- chrys, 23:11:57 03/15/06 Wed [1]
well the final push is not totally over. i finished printing today, and am hoping to get one of my copies printed double-sided, and then i will hole-punch it and put it in a binder, so that i can have an easy way to give it to other people to read. my roommate has requested a go at it adn i think i will let her, cuz she's so demographically different than me that i'd like her perspective. even with the moon out of virgo, i'm being really anal, i don't really want to celebrate until i can say it's totally done and ready for others to read and out of my hands. i am so looking forward to that.
howegver, for the rest of the night, i'm going to take a bath and i'm going to watch movies and maybe do some actual writing. i've just recently started picking up the pen again. it's hard to be in a writing and editing space at the same time, i think it's a left brain/right brain thing.
and let me tell ya, i may need a few days just totally away from the computer...

Chrys - that takes alot of work and some pretty thick skin. Congratulations!
And be proud that you have a story! I keep a journal, but the entries are like "Horse dead. Quick kicking." I don't have an adventure or story or an interesting view. Be proud that you do - because that's the stuff exceptional life is made of. :)

"I don't have an adventure or story or an interesting view."
I think all of us here who have read your posts, lump, would verify that that is just not true. I've found many of your posts about your life to be very compelling. I think a lot of your fellow euphoriacs would concur.
Don't sell yourself so short. There is no such thing as a "mundane" existence, just audiences who have no empathy.

Thanks guys - I guess what I mean is that I don't have anything I'm compelled to write about in book form and I think it's just awsome that Chrys does and that she should be proud of herself. :) This thread is about Chrys and all her hard work that's going to pay off.
Chrys - what do short vertical lines all over the bottom 2 sections of your fingers mean?

Re: dare i post too soon? -- chrys, 12:18:23 03/17/06 Fri [1]
interesting you should ask that. i don't know so much about palm reading, but i did have mine read once by a very thorough guy (that's when the tape fucked up) and my roommate and i both have those lines, so i can give you that guy's take on it.
supposedly those are "water" lines. this reader classified the shape and style of hands according to the elements, and those lines are supposed to be an indication of water. if you have them (i'm guessing you do since you asked), it makes sense as your Sign is also a water sign. in the hand reading, the guy said that the water lines indicate a sensitive person, and not just sensitive as in sentimental/emotional, but also affected easily. with that there can be a people-pleasing tendency, and an ability to adapt to whatever crowd you're in, almost to have a lot of different faces for different situations, while keeping a lot of your "true self" to yourself. sometimes there is also a tendency to bend over backwards for other people and not to stand your own ground. on the good side, you sense things and are aware of things that others don't see, like an ability to really pick up on subtleties. sometimes that's in a psychic way, just picking up on moods and feelings and places. the danger is forgetting yourself in everything you pick up.
that is one person's interpretation. you should ask A Light though, she knows some about this.
and chapter two and the table of contents are up on my myspace, and i think you guys of all people would find the table of contents (which i promise is not like any other) quite interesting...

Thanks lotus and thanks for accepting my add at myspace. I'm Twinkletoes if you were wondering
Offtopic.
I have told some of you, but I got a reading with Chris mom in December. We did it over the phone and she does a numerology reading. I found her to be really nice and I felt very comfortable talking to her, she has a very motherly personality about her. Anyway, here's her website.
I contacted her through email first and then we set up a time to talk, I think that's her cell number on the site, but she will give it to you anyay.

Yeah, great job, Chrys! I really admire you for pumping this out. It really takes alot of discipline to finish a book. I have to agree, I really like it, especially the 2nd chapter. I loves me a good book!

Re: dare i post too soon? -- chrys, 18:54:52 03/17/06 Fri [1]
thanks you guys. i'm glad to hear that, i'm much more self-conscious about the second one, so it's good to get that perspective. i'm glad you liked it.
i'll tell you this though...this is how i'm celebrating...i just got tickets to COACHELLA, which is code name for "i'm seeing tool live!" wasn't going to go, but i got an impulse this morning and decided to do it before i thought twice. it's already paid for, so...
as for CC's mom, i've seen her twice, and gotten three phone readings...this is over a period of 5+ years. she is damn good. i love how she does the year thing, she'll go over your numerological year pretty thoroughly, and then she does cards. have been thinking about calling her lately. one thing i like is that in getting a reading from her, i feel like i learn a lot ot enhance my own understanding of those sciences. and she is good. there is something so warm about her.

Chrys-- Congratulations on finishing the book! That is definitely a feat worth celebrating!
Your COACHELLA treat is such a wonderful reward for your efforts. Wishing you a great trip, with lots of fun and Great Music!!
And don't forget to say Hi to Maynard from me ;)
Lump-- I never heard of any interpretations for lines on the fingers (before the one Chrys just related). I have them too, by the way, but long and not obviously noticeable. On other parts of the hand vertical lines indicate a positive flow of energy, so I would think that idea could be carried up through the fingers too. The bottom two sections of the fingers are thought to represent base desires (bottom) and practical actions/applications. So it's possible vertical lines there could indicate the prominence of energies in those realms, which could be further specified by the fingers affected and the quantity and styles of the markings. To my knowledge, other qualities of each finger and the mounts under them, amongst other things, would be definitely be considered more significant to a reading, in any case.
Not as interesting as the water thing, but there ya go :P

Re: dare i post too soon? -- chrys, 12:09:07 03/19/06 Sun [1]
well guys, i will speak too soon and say this:
i have always known that when the time was ripe, i would go with self-publishing rather than going with a major publisher. there are a lot of reasons for that. i have seen published authors get totally screwed by even subsidiary publishers. there's also the whole idea of going indie rather than going with the big man in new york. i think there are a lot of parallels to the record industry. mostly though, if you self-publish, you get more money per book sold (by a lot actually), and you get to keep your rights.
so i've been reading the self-publishing manual by dan poynter, aka the self-publishing bible, and he makes very very strong arguments for becoming your own publishing company, as a sole proprietorship business. if i do it, it will mean doing a lot of the work myself, which i sort of like, as a self-starter type of person. also when i did my show and various other things, i have really enjoyed the business end of things, the promotions and press releases and organization, so this might be a good outlet for my more left-brained self, while the right brain writes. once i get this up and running, and really know the ins and outs of how to do it, i can do this for the other people in my group who want to self-publish, because i know most of them really hate the whole promotions/business end of it. if i do this, it will take a LOT of work, and a lot of learning, and a lot of consulting with other people who know a lot more about what they're doing. still i am very strongly leaning towards it.
also i'm going to say my projected release date for the book is oct 31st. we'll see if i can keep that, it means i should get it to a printer by june, yikes!

spike way too soon there, there is no way i can hae it done that fast, just assessing the costs i'd need to get it to printing. probably the printing will take place in october (once the market is done and i have saved up the money i've made from that in order to afford the printing). i'll see as i go on and i'll update you guys. this is exciting.
