Subject: the boob tube

I wonder where that name, "the boob tube," came from, anyway. That's how my mom would often refer to the TV when I was a kid. I think it was the only acceptable usage of the word "boob" in my house.

Anyway, it's a stupid topic, but I'm in a stupid mood. Just was wondering what everyone's favorite TV shows are. A few of mine:

The Office
Arrested Development (RIP)
Scrubs
My Name is Earl
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Malcom in the Middle
Family Guy
Justice League Unlimited
Dirty Jobs
Mythbusters
NOW
Nova

I also enjoy many assorted nature shows, many assorted history shows, many assorted reruns of sitcoms and a few assorted "reality" shows. These are the things I DVR. What about yous folks?

I think they called it the boob tube, not because 50's television sets looked like a boob but more like a bubble.
So instead of calling it a bubble tube they called it boob tube. Pretty racy for the fifties. How about couch potatoe, maybe it means you are a big boob who watches t.v.

O.K that made no sense, I going to Wikipedia it. BRB

O.K I was right it has the same meaning as a couch potatoe.

In American and Canadian slang, a boob tube is a television set, normally with a negative or humorous connotation. This usage derives from the definition of "boob" as a foolish person and "tube" from the television's cathode ray tube.

Favourite shows

Arrested Development ( I am so mad about that)
The Office
Survivor
American Justice
Biography
Judge Judy
Match Game (yes the old game show)
Family Guy

The occasional late night talk show usually Letterman or The Daily Show
and SNL.

Back

The L Word
Mythbusters
24
Lost

Also I watch a really lame ass show on Spike TV called MXC (Most Extreme Elimination Challenge), the hubby and I play drinking games to it. "Right you are Ken" *takes drink*

and for some reason unknown to me I still find time to watch All My Children for more years than should be legal. That's when I take my lunch break.

MXC is goodness. More sexual innuendo per minute than almost any show on television.

And that's saying something.

"Here's Craig Simmons, creator of Weightnessless Watchers".

Kenny: "Yeah, for fat astronauts."
Vic: "Right you are, Ken."
Kenny: "Ass-tronauts."
Vic: "Kenny?"
Kenny: "Ass-tro-nauts."
Vic: "Uh, Kenny..."
Kenny: "Ass-tro-nauts."
Vic: "All right, Kenny, let's get back to the action."

I love the idea behind My Name is Earl!

Desperate Housewives
That Dennis Leary Fireman show I hear rumor is coming back (although I couldn't watch much after his son was hit by a drunk driver.)
Ghosthunters (Roto-rooter, that's the name and away go ghosties down the drain).
American Idol (tryouts only)
Jerry Springer (when I'm home)

If I wasn't too cheap to pay for HBO, my list would be much bigger.

Here are some braindead shows I'll watch if I'm bored and have nothing to do (but not ones I make sure to catch):

Girls Next Door (Can I please look like Holly?)
#1 Single
Viva LaBam (where do they get insurance?)
Bounty Hunter (Leland floats my boat.)
Celebrity Fit Club (Gunner Nelson is NOT fat.)
Wild Boys ("These people worship macack.")

P.S I'm also big on decorating shows like Trading Spaces and Moving Up and Sell This House, etc.

There is this one British show though it's about dieting and this nutritionist comes to your house and prepares a special diet for you to follow. Well some of the things she has people eat is disgusting, but the grossest thing she does is anylyse your poo! She actually smells it after you have been to the bathroom and then takes a stool sample and has it analysed!! Can you believe it?

i still don't have cable in my room. maybe onci do, i'll have more answers.

i still watch old x-files reruns too.

Wedding Crashers is hilarious!!! I love the scene where the blond chasing Vince Vaughn says "Otherwise I will come and find you."

Home from work today.......big snow storm. Biggest we have had in years. Not the reason I am home but just thought I would mention it.

My shows:

The Sopranos-cannot wait until March 12th for the new season
Deadwood
Six Feet Under
Nip/Tuck-very strange but I like it
Seinfeld...I can watch old re-runs of that show over and over
I Love Lucy
Boston Legal ( I think...had James Spader and Capt. Kirk in it.)
The Closer
The Shield
Fear Factor
Bounty Hunter

Assorted shows on crime, murders, cold cases

Chrys - to be honest, I've seriously cut back on my FSTV watching. I listen to NPR every day, and watch NOW every weekend (and watch the Daily Show), and that's about all the politics my psyche can take anymore.

I just feel like I pile all this psychic baggage on my head and never really do anything to relieve it. I still try to stay informed, I just don't want it to dictate my mood.

OH - and HOW CLEAN IS YOUR HOUSE! That's a great show - people are freakin' pigs.

TG: Have you seen Trading Spaces: Boys Vs. Girls with the kids? That's a great show! Way more fun that the grown up version. I love the guy from While you were out...actually I love a couple of 'em.

Extreme Home Make-Over and all the Trading Spouses Nanny 911 shows are good, too.

~~~ I agree! Wife Swap too.
Yes i have seen trading spaces for kids and those kids end up with amazing rooms.
If Doug Wilson from TS ever came to my house, he would never leave, I freaking LOVE him!
I guess I do watch alot of t.v. I only watch it at night and don't turn it on until about 7:30pm.
