I think they called it the boob tube, not because 50's television sets looked like a boob but more like a bubble.
So instead of calling it a bubble tube they called it boob tube. Pretty racy for the fifties. How about couch potatoe, maybe it means you are a big boob who watches t.v.

O.K I was right it has the same meaning as a couch potatoe.



In American and Canadian slang, a boob tube is a television set, normally with a negative or humorous connotation. This usage derives from the definition of "boob" as a foolish person and "tube" from the television's cathode ray tube.
