Tom brings up another good point. At BGR I spent a little bit of every day as 1st Sgt helping people repair gear. The event is tough on knapsacks, shoes, accouterments, haversacks, etc. Broken or stretched straps, broken or torn shoes, suspenders, a zillion buttons, weapons, etc. Make sure your gear is in good shape (and well/authentically made helps). Wear the stuff on a good 5 miler at some point to check the wearability and load bearing. Oil your leather straps and gear before the event so it won't crack.

Examine every last thing you will take and be sure it either will be used at some point, or is of some sentimental or other value that makes it a keeper one of the boys back then might have carried.

Dry socks were a premium at BGR - make sure you have at least 3 pairs. Splashing through streams is just something one does in the Kisatchie...sometimes under fire while being "encouraged" to hurry by an officer or NCO :-)

You march on your feet, so shoes and socks are key, obviously.

Dang this will be fun

Doug
