Phil is correct that we had a couple of guys go down with either a.) shoes that fell apart or b.) feet that weren't up to par.

Don't arrive at Piney Woods with brogans that are failing. Neither should you upack a pair of new shoes to start the march. Have a pair you've broken in that are in good condition.

Don't underestimate the power of good socks. At least two pairs of wool socks are pretty critical. Cotton are optional and can be carried in addition to your wool socks. Let one pair dry so that you've always got a dry pair to put on. Don't sleep in your shoes. Keep an eye on hotspots and blisters.

Most of this is hopefully common sense but if it hadn't occured to you yet, it's high time to think about things like this.
