Southport recorded their first home victory in the Nationwide Conference since November 28 with a 1-0 win over Chester.
A 28th-minute goal by Simon Parke gave Southport some measure of revenge for their defeat in the quarter-final of the FA Umbro Trophy at Chester last Saturday.

Parke's goal came when a corner on the left by Mike Marsh glanced off the crossbar and he headed home from close range.

Chester were fortunate to reach the interval only a goal behind as Parke and Andy Gouck both hit the woodwork during long spells of Southport pressure.

Although they improved after the interval Chester posed few problems for the home defence with the notable exception of Mark Beesley the only visiting player to make any impression.

The win gave Southport their third double of the season and they also had the satisfaction of keeping a clean sheet for the first time in 10 matches in all competitions.
