Subject: Favorite sound effects in FG Trilogy

Mine would be the effects used for the rocket ships. It sounds like a piston-propeller engine with the crackling and ignition of the engine as the ship takes off. Torch, your comment?

I would definitely pick the rocket ship sound effects as well.

Also all the buzzing and zapping scientific gadgetry of Ming's laboratory, which had previously been seen (and heard) in the James Whale Frankenstein pictures.

"Does my workshop compare favorably with those on Earth, Dr Zarkov?"

I agree with both of you. FYI, years back, I recall reading the rocket ship sounds were, at noisy take off, perhaps firecrackers sounding off, while the humming, buzzing sounds were from an apparently early Schick electric razor.

Interestingly, all FG/BR rocket ships sounded alike (but, the Mars stratosleds often sounded different, more rocket power like). Audiences of the time though were familiar with piston sounding motors, hence perhaps were considered more desirable for frequent use in the serials. Or, maybe just easy to use by sound dept.

As for those sparkling gizmos in the various labs, I imagine tesla coils and the like with explosive like sounds were utilized. Great sound effects for early material. Some goofs were evident here and there, but we can let 'em slide.
