Subject: Dino De Laurentiis

Legendary film producer Dino De Laurentiis (1919-2010) has passed away at age 91. He was the producer of the 1980 FLASH GORDON movie starring Sam J. Jones, Melody Anderson and Max von Sydow. The film was not a box office or critical success at the time of its release. However, it holds up rather well today, despite (or perhaps because of?) its campier aspects and flamboyant musical score by Queen.

De Laurentiis is credited as producer or executive producer on numerous films, including Serpico (1973), Ragtime (1981), Dune (1984) and the 1976 remake of King Kong.

Legendary Italian film producer Dino De Laurentiis' passing marks another loss in the world of great film makers. His filmography (see IMDb)is diversified and impressive. He produced many types of movies, often with top names, and/or spectacular epics. As Sgt.Tim mentions, he also produced the 1980 Flash Gordon movie. It is a colorful, lively adventure sometimes necessitating several viewings to better appreciate it. Not a box office triumph, it has a strong fan following, even now in spite of its camp. It's a good movie...fun, close to the A.R. comics at times, with a world cast and many accents...just make popcorn and enjoy the lively flick. It's 2hrs long. I would've enjoyed more.
De Laurentiis often made splashy colorful, costly movies, biblical epics, remakes, and many others. He apparently worked hard, did well, entertained many, and now rests in peace with many peers from his time.
