Subject: What FG serial had the best music score?

Torch,

You may go first, as Barin is busy plotting his next feeble attempt to learn more about the tunnel's renovation, while Commander Rick is busy serenading one of the palace maidens to win the good graces of Barin's support. Heh heh.

On an overall basis, I rank the trilogy as follows with regard to music, subjectively speaking of course.

#1) Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe.....why? The real reel thing...exciting, moving, visions of battles..swordfights, shoot-em-ups, yet mellow at times. Use of Les Preludes a definite plus. Music moves at correct tempo with scenes.

#2) Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars...lot of Bride of Frankenstein stock use. Otherwise, a bit on somber side, especially in Forest Kingdom.

#3)Last but not least...Flash Gordon, Space Soldiers (orig).
Especially like that haunting wandering theme by Clifford Vaughn at the Forewards. Overall, a very close second to me.

If such movies were ever remade, I would love to hear score done by John Barry.

Ok High Priest....you've my opinion...now suggest you get a search party formed to find aka Sgts.Tim/Time for questioning.

Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe also gets my enlisted man's nod for spot number one. The music successfully conveys a soaring sense of adventure befitting an action-packed science fantasy serial like Universe. The score obviously had considerable influence on the George Lucas Star Wars films, particularly Episode IV: A New Hope (1977).
