Favorite moments?...not much. It's quaint maybe. I bought a tape on ebay for 8 bucks.(A leftover thing.) Box was from a nostalgia outfit from yesteryear, generic yellow/repeating pattern, and index card inserted, dated 1990, with simple pix/title on one side, and brief description on other, including year 1948! Just about everywhere else, I see 1953 and it also went under title Destination Saturn.

The 70 minute flick is a really butchered down version of BR 1939 serial with noticeable areas where edits were made. I wanted it for the curious beginning, but it didn't fit that well...some commentator talking about possible flying saucers, soon followed by dirigible crash, then BR. Maybe 10 or less minutes of this; then cut down BR movie version, with lots of key elements not there. Not even transporter in hidden city. If desired, you can see this, maybe all of this old, much shortened film on YouTube. Hmm, another item for back of shelf. Moreso dust collector, not for collector.

I've seen short, movie length versions of a number of serials...this is not one of the better ones. If you want the 39BR serial, I consider the VCI dvd decent, even though its from 16mm print. I have this and an old tape serial which is ok. There's a new re-do out; the 1939BR with extra material and I understand its from 35mm print. But it'll set you back about $27 compared to about $16 for the 16mm version. In this economy, sometimes you gotta choose between a larger bag of ice melt, or a nicer looking video. You pays your money and takes your choice.

Hey! we were supposed to have some fun here in FG land to maybe beat the winter blues...where are you clever people?
