A stratosled seems like kind of a jumpy craft. It bobs around a lot. Outwardly, it doesn't seem to offer a smooth ride...yet, we see sometimes a handful worth of crew/passengers inside, but no violent bouncing around inside though. No seatbelts, straps or handles for standees if you will, which includes most, if not all occupants. I think there's a barber like chair for the pilot, but he stands most of the time anyway, in front of that tiny nautical like steering wheel (not unlike those on kiddie boat rides from yesteryear's amusement parks).

The sound is also of interest, often moreso like a muffled rocket engine, though at times, we hear the familiar buzz of the space type Zarkov/Ming ships. Some have said an old Shick electric razor was used for sound effects for these ships. The same sound I recall is also in all of the Buck Rogers craft. (Interestingly, those familiar with the death ray running amok in 1935s The Phantom Empire serial might detect a similar, though faint sound at times.)

A common thing with the stratosleds, and for that matter just about any ships in the trilogy, and the BR serial as well is how they land. They tend to circle, tightly, then land. Much different from many oldies eg as in Rocky Jones Space Ranger with craft with vertical take off and landing.

I always enjoyed the FG/BR aerial scenes. (Favorite is FGCTU.) Yes, strings attached, firecracker effects, technical errors....so what...if you enjoy it, you enjoy it, strings and all. As a kid with limited funds, some of us made ships by whittling 'em out of wood or modifying and decorating (don't laugh)wooden clothes pins for make believe. (Of course, these were rainy day projects; nice days were outdoors playing stickball or maybe make believe sword fighting using scrap wood lumber.)

Ahh...good memories. Yeah, you can analyze to the Nth degree with this stuff, but I guess if you enjoyed it, had fun, AND still enjoy this stuff, great! Try to pass it down to the next generation. Honor, friendship, teamwork, good vs. evil....where good prevails, all good lessons.
