Subject: Poll: Favorite moments with the High Priest

The High Priest was quite a talented fellow and so was Ted Lorch who played him in the 1936 serial film. Any favorite scenes?

The 2nd high priest in the later chapters of FG '36, played by Ted Lorch was a crafty, cackling-like character. Seems he was a type not to be trusted by anyone! I've one memorable scene, and another that is vague and eludes me... help me out if you can. One scene is near the end where he brags about his dastardly deed in his evil planting of doom aboard the earthlings homeward bound ship. The evil priest cackles away while Prince Barin is strangling him.
An earlier one, I recall (and am paraphrasing) Ming telling the guards to ...take this babbling idiot away, when he, the priest, warns Ming not to offend Tao. Something similar, though not as humorous or memorable occured earlier with the 1st (less colorful) priest used before..(where the marriage gong only made 12).

Chapter eleven is when the High Priest swears Tao is attacking Ming and the guards, when it's really the invisible Flash. Ming tells the guards, "Lock up this babbling idiot!" He then summons his loyal man to the throne, "Officer Torch!"

In chapter thirteen, the priest makes a time bomb in the laboratory just after Flash and his party leave to the rocketship. After the trio say goodbye and lift off, the priest comes out from behind a rock, laughing and gloats about, "moments of life are left" and "I planted a BOMB in their ship!" Barin strangles him for a few moments, then lets him go and he keeps laughing.

High Priest No. 1 in chapters 1 & 2 was miscast. Casting was smart to hire Ted Lorch for the latter part of the serial film. He was a good character actor.

One of my favorite scenes is when High Priest betrays Aura in the Tunnel of Terror so Flash can be consumed by the Fire Dragon in chapter nine. That smug look on his face after he deliberately sounds the Sacred Gong that awakes the Fire Monster! In chapter thirteen, you have him co-assisting Ming, who stages his "death" in the tunnel. The look on his face is priceless. He could work that lever better than anyone!

CORRECTION/COMMENTS

Guess this is human/mongonian nature in a way. Typos, some errors..even after seeing/reading-proofreading, maybe several times yet! I've also some comments.

In '36 FG, Chap 13 near end, it is Vultan choking the high priest, not Prince Barin. Barin grabs the priest intially, lets go, and after the priest speaks of his dastardly deed, Vultan starts to strangle him. (Yes, yes--excuses, excuses, but the two guys, Barin and Vultan in Roman-ish looking garb can be mixed up at times...sorry.) I anticipate some tasteful banter for this, and once earlier for incorrectly spelling comic book Zogi, Gogi.

Oh, item of interest..lesson learned...beware of fast forwarding DVD/VCRs in serials...it's amazing (even sometimes at only 2X normal speed) how you can miss a phrase/favorite quote or part you might be looking for. ALSO, beware of edited movie length versions...they're shortened considerably...but as luck would have it, you just might miss what you were hunting for...eg, in FG '36 movie versions, you'll not likely find Ming telling his guards to lock up this babbling idiot (high priest). It's a brief section cut out. Many such gems are out. You will also notice some different music parts with the movie versions, some from maybe Tim Tyler's Luck, Red Barry, and others. So, beware.
