;-) A huge talking gopher(or big kid too early for Halloween)informed me that Prince Barin's expertise on Mongo re underground tunnels, catacombs, etc contributed to his subsequent trip to Mars, to assist FG and friends. (Frankly,I wasn't impressed with his imprisonment in Forest Kingdom.) Nevertheless, seems Barin is said to have much interest/knowledge of Martian powerhouse, lab, and nitron lamp. Will await his report on these places. (Oh, the gopher said he's a guru on this!)

To me, there's much running around (like earthlings in Three Stooges or Marx Brothers shows I've seen on televisor.) But, this '38 serial has lots of sparklers and snap-crackling machinery, as used in classic Bride of Frankenstein movie and others. Great music too! The running in and out of what seems to be adjacent rooms seemed a bit cramped/busy, but nevertheless entertaining. (It would likely have interested the late earth scientist Tesla.) Perhaps the most gadget electromechanical scientific oriented serial of the trilogy. Any comments on this?

Thinking about Ming's Powerhouse, the Nitron Lamp and (horrors!) the Disintegrating Room still sends shivers down my spine. Ming's laboratory in the Powerhouse was the source of all the horrific machinations that he visited upon Mars, Earth and of course Flash and the rest of us.

Ming in his incarnation in "Mars" was served by Tarnak and a team of other soldiers of evil but even Tarnak saw the light of reason at the end. Zandar, on the other hand, even when Ming was on the run was firmly in Ming's corner and almost caused the death of Flash after Ming forced Flash into the secret room behind the throne. Zandar was even worse than Tarnak, if such a thing is possible, by speedily repairing the Nitron Lamp so to inflict further woe upon our hapless earth.

The three locales mentioned are really intertwined, the Disintegrating Room being part of the laboratory and the Nitron Lamp the result of its work. In "Universe" on Mongo Zarkov states that the Purple Death is the result of Ming's work in his laboratory there so the laboratory is the place from which Ming's plans reach fruition.

We did have to run back and forth a lot via secret passages, the underground subway, rooftops, etc.-even with Martian wings but it was all necessary to thwart Ming, he who said, "Universe? I am the universe!".

Never must we let our guard down for Ming still survives!
