Coming from someone who lived in a gambling society for a few years (not as a showgirl), I know the reasons behind licensing. But, in Vegas, even the laundromats had poker machines, so I have a hard time understanding the issue.

Massachusetts already is a hypocrite in it's statement that it doesn't allow gambling. They just word it a different way. We don't have "legalized gambling", but we do have "gaming" run by the state. Lottery, racing, etc...they are all forms of gambling. Bingo in churches, that pay out winnings is gambling, the sale of "chances", 5 for a dollar to win a 5000.00 prize. Poker machines might as well put under the category of "legalized gambling".
However, as a tax payer, I think it ludicrous that we allowed the police to waste their time on a sting operation, when it was already decided that Nason's, and anyone else for that matter would get away with it.

I also remember "MAXWELLS" in Lowell very well. I worked across the street. They had a back room, with "unclaimed merchandise" was kept, coming from a "law-enforcing establishment" in Lowell. You could buy these items in the back room at a nice little price. (they didn't have poker machines here yet, or Maxwell's would have had those in the back room instead). Go further back, and you could buy a powdery-white substance, and it wasn't Ajax, nor was it Anthrax. Not only did all of US know it was there, but the room was visible as "certain" individuals brought in the merchandise, having no door on the room. Making us all aware that, not only did the city know it was there but it was condoned by the city as well.

Nason's reminds me of that innuendo reference. Except for the powdery-substance, that is.

Personally, (and this is only my opinion), if nothing was going to be done to any establishment that operated this type of system, we should never have had the police involved. I agree with CG. I am not pissed off to the point of rallying down in front of Nason's with signs of protest. But, someone should have clued the police in before they showed up to pull the machines out.

Oh, before I close..Dennis, good to see you back! You have been missed.
