The truth is, the feeling that the original poster felt is no different than the feelings of most Americans these days. The media has gotten us into such a frenzy of paranoia, after also telling us not to be paranoid that the American way of life has changed forever. Makes you wonder what life in England, Ireland, Israel and every other place that is subject to terrorist attacks, was like before they were forced to live life with eyes in back of their heads.

I don't want a Power Plant in my back yard. But, no one does. The ones that do want one in a town usually don't live there, or in the area. But, it's like a dump. No one wants one near them, but we all have to have them. You can't stick one in the city because of the evacuation/space factor. But, you also subject the suburbanites to the same risks. They start thinking in logical terms at this point. The start with scenarios of doom, thinking of evacuation factors in terms of amount of residents. There is where the suburbs come in. Less people that can be harmed in the event of a disaster. "The Good of the many outweighs the good of the few". Sorry, had a Star Trek Moment there.

While talking to my waitress friends at the Lo Kai, they commented on it being slow for the past few nights. People are scared, they said. They are worried about money. They are worried about the stock market, so they are not going out. What each of these people has to realize is, our stock market was rocky long BEFORE this 9-11 attack. It has never been a "sure thing". You can't sit in your homes and wait for impending doom, or worry about it forever. It will happen no matter where you go, or what you do. You just have to live your life as if it was the last. And, by staying home you are not helping. You are rocking the economy even more without stimulating it. So many factors to fit into these fears and paranoia. And, we are feeding the fire.

Maybe we should just go back to horses, coal-run trains, wood fireplaces and the Pony Express. We wouldn't have to worry about Gas prices, attacks on our transit systems, natural gas being targetted, and Anthrax going through the mailrooms.

Or, maybe we should just remember that we are all in this together, and work together for a solution. If there is no solution, than we should just stand together and show these spineless wimps that we will go on in our daily lives, no matter how hard they hit our country.

After all, we are Americans.
