The Council knows it can eliminate the public address part of meetings. Take away the mic. Get right into the meeting. Ignore the cat calls. Motion to allow the council to... Paased. Motion to close the meeting? Motion. Second? Gavel slam. Meeting done. No more public voice. Those who object to this abuse are a sad minority who bemoan but won't act on it. The sporadic participation on this board alone proves beyond doubt that the majority of Newburghers don't care at all. Houses are worth fractions of what they were. For Sale signs go up. Nobody in their right mind wants to move to Newburgh so the houses don't sell. And the Council tells Newburghers to leave. But so few take offense. The majority just shuts up and crawls away with their tail between their legs. Even the ones who were loudest at Council meetings prove to be ineffective. Newburgh will go on. Watch the next elections and see who gets voted BACK into City Hall. No. The way to keep dignity is to leave. Regina's right.
