As someone from the outside looking in it really bothers me when girls aren’t truthful. At the Mariners game a contestant sang the National Anthem, which was great, BUT she was announced to be the first openly gay woman competing for Miss Washington and have noticed her bring up that topic multiple times. This is NOT a true statement. A past Miss Auburn was the first to openly speak about being part of the LGBTQ+….. make sure you know your facts before making strong statements such as that one.

In her defense, she was the first if you look back to when she was a teen. I may not love her personally, but I don’t believe she made an incorrect statement. She began competing in 2018 and Auburns Miss was 2020 if I recall correctly.
You may not have paid attention to her voice in 2018 but it was very there.

She is the first openly LGBT candidate in the program. This has been challenged many times by people like yourself who don't do their research. She has been openly LGBT in the program since at least 2017. Miss Auburn came out in 2020 as LGBT after winning her local title and ran as such at state.

Others have said it already, but I cannot help but repeat... she is not saying anything wrong. She was the first contestant to be OPEN about being LGBTQ **BEFORE** competition. The Miss Auburn in question came out AFTER the competition. There is a HUGE difference because it's a huge display of vulnerability about a sensitive and personal topic and is something that could easily trigger unfair bias if a judge is at all homophobic. Here's a bit of unsolicited advice, it's always better to hold your tongue and appear smart than to open your mouth and prove otherwise.
