Subject: Legislation is getting closer to home

Good day everyone. There is much going on with the KAFP and I want to share some of that with you all here today. But first, I need to inform you of some serious situations taking place in Georgia and Utah.

Legislation is taking place and the government is stepping in and telling the fitness professionals what they can and cannot do, how to operate their business and what they will require as credentials and education.

I don't need to tell you that much of this is being fueled by Athletic Trainers and many Physical Therapists. There is no reason why these different industries cannot work together but instead they see fit for some reason to come in and attempt to take over the fitness industry.

Kentucky at some point will be on the Legislative Hit List and the KAFP is doing what it can to stop any action either be it happening now or in the future that will legislate the fitness industry in Kentucky. I am also opposed to licensing as well because that will put the government right back into the regulation business. The only way I will agree to state licensing is if the entire fitness industry has, not just a say, but has the most input into what licensing should look like.

Please join the KAFP NOW! It is still free for 2007 but we need your voice and support. I am not asking for money but membership dues will begin sometime in 2008. More on that later. The KAFP needs a membership base to take to Frankfort to let our legislators know that we are serious and mean business.

On a high note, I am going to meet with Gold's Gym sometime in the next couple of weeks in Lousiville Kentucky. This is on fitness business that supports what the KAFP is attempting to do and we should have close to 120 trainers in attendance at our first open public forum about the KAFP. If you would like to attend, let me know or if you would like to meet with me privately I can arrange that as well if I am in your area.

I look forward to helping all of you grow professionally as trainers and keep the wheels of prosperity and freedom rolling in the Kentucky Fitness Industry.

Have a strong and healthy day,

J.R.Smith, c.f.t., s.p.n., s.s.c., NBFE board registered
