Subject: Good news, bad news on the Edsel

First the bad news. I bought the valve spring compressor and removed the #2 exhaust valve spring. I tried everything under the sun to get it to return to its closed position. Nada. No go. So, I had to pull the intake, valley pan and heads. Here's the good (but weird) news. The valve is fine. There was a mysterious piece of aluminum tubing about 3" long caught in the cylinder and pinned against the valve stem, keeping it from closing. I have no earthly idea what the fuck it was or how it got there, but removing it solved my valve problem. The other GREAT news is that this engine has been recently rebuilt. The valley was clean enough to eat off of and the cylinder walls are smooth as a baby's butt and still show signs of a recent honing. They don't even need ridge reamed.

Now, I just have to get the gasket kit, clean everything up and put it back together. Ta-DAAAAHHHHH.

She should be on the road after my next paycheck.
