I respect his talent, but not him. Sorry to speak ill of the dead, but this story was told to me by three different friends that were there. My buddy Chad in Kansas had his '55 Chevy pro street car at a Goodguys show in KC one year. He hadn't finished it, so it was still in various stages of primer. He and my other friends went walking around and when they got back, Boyd was sitting on the hood of Chad's car doing an interview in front of a camera. He had no respect for my friend's car at all. When the interview was over, Chad politely asked him what the fuck he thought he was doing. Boyd said, "What...are you worried I'm going to scratch this piece of shit?" and slid off the hood. Chad about pounded him.

Any guy that will do that may be a car builder but he's certainly no hot rodder and he's a self-important, bloated festering asshole. No real car guy would do that to another guy's car. Period. I feel bad for Boyd's family, but I personally won't shed a tear. Give me Boyd's budget and I could build a car like that, too. All you have to do is farm out the work and hire guys better than yourself.

By the way, Chad builds 50-100K tri-five Chevy gassers and pro street cars for a living and does ALL of it himself, except for the glass and machine shop work on the engines. He even does the upholstery. The car Boyd parked his bloated ass on ended up selling for 71K at auction.
