>I am a Sanibel resident - winters only. My strong advice - do not go into the water at all, (well, ankle deep is ok) after dusk. That is when the sharks feed. Last month I watched a fisherman land an 8ft. Bull Shark off the beach on West Gulf Drive. It was the 4th one for the day and one was even larger than 8 feet. They were caught in water that was no deeper than 3-4 feet. Don't be scared by that but there are certain things you don't do if sharks can be around. One of the most important is do not go swimming in the dark. Daytime is fine, shark attacks are extremely rare.

On the subject of Pensacola I was there in flight training many years ago and was swimming in an area where a fisherman caught a 400lb. Hammerhead Shark! The officers club beach of all places!!
