Autumn is here and nearly gone. The wind is growing chill and the snows will come soon.
Saben and Keleios are gone. Thank the Gods. The House can now settle back to comfort. The twins are doing well with their lessons, and construction has begun on the House and Brothel.
I had expected it to take the winter and half the spring to build them, and I worried I would have to live in half constructed rooms until the babe comes. Things have worked out however, in many ways.
Kyslith has become part of the House, and his help invaluable to us. He has taken a liking to Laura, and is endeared to the twins..and seems much happier as he comes more out of his shell. He has agreed to help with the construction, and has promised its walls will be up in two weeks time. This is a huge relief to me, for in a month, I will have a difficult time in hiding my belly.
We endured the visit of the taxman well enough..despite the priest. It took some effort on Lucas' part, and I feared all during that night he would not return. He did though, and exhilirated from it. He has been lighter in mood since, and it did him well, to dabble in the old life. At any rate, we worry not about further problems from the King and his men. Missives have been dispatched to offer our condolensces for the loss of his men, to express our own (for we had to convey that we too, lost people to this terrible plague), and to insure to the King that our tax moneys will be sent to him safely in the future, without his need to come here. Plague is a wonderful deterant!
We threw Lucas a surprise birthday party. It went off very well, and his men enjoyed waylaying him on the road to get him there. It turned raunchy in the end, the orgy consuming everyone including Kyslith. Lucas had a grand time, but our pets got a bit out of hand. Meg flirting with Kyslith and Nobi not returning until late the following morning.
Preparations are under way to move things from the manor to the building site, and a small staff is being hired. Rose is fretting because she wants to be closer during my pregnancy, and I finally had to promise her that she and the twins would stay at the new house the last month. The twins are excited of course, and I will be taking them out this day to watch the building commence. Kyslith believes they should watch the effort it takes him.
It was decided by Mose and Lucas, that instead of simply shifting power to Mose and hiding, it would be better if it were shown that Lucas needed the rest, and was taking a sabbatical to run the brothel for a time. Still there for the people if they need him..but out of the tedious work.
Mose is happy to take over..the old fox knew all along..and I see a wedding in the future between he and Rose.
I am not content with the fact that we must continue under the facade of Lord Viper and Lady Criquet..but such is the price we pay.
It will be a long winter hiding myself away.
