Subject: GFD Question #18 - Did the 'Sun Quest' ideas come from a story somewhere? And if so, which one?

Not that I know of. I kinda 'invented' the idea of a Sun Quest for the "GFD" storyline specifically, and it kinda grew from there.

I imagine that i there really was an entire society of vampires living amongst us, with no 'natural predators', so to speak...and they are all immortal...there would be BILLIONS of them! We'd be overrun. So the Sun Quest idea came about along with the ideas that the vampires in this particular series usually only live to be about 100 to 120 years old. (With the exception of the Elders, who have found a way to live longer without breaking down into madness) I thought about what it would be like to be 'done' with your life, but still be immortal. And I didn't want the vampires stabbing themselves in the heart to escape the burden of life because....that's kinda...um...morbid. Even for a vampire story.

So I wondered, what if they just allowed the sun to consume them? And what if it was more of a religious experience than a suicide? A method of passing on to the next world, willingly, and in peace. And that's where the idea originated for the story.

I haven't seen that in any other vampire stories, but if it's out there somewhere, then I guess psycho minds just think alike. :)
