Just for the sake of argument...
It could also be simply for the story to flow better. Otherwise Com would constantly be writing about feedings and the story would never get anywhere. At least, that's the way I always looked at it.
But, to the best of my knowledge, most lore dictates that they feed nightly. However, I've been wrong before :)
