Subject: Thoughts on Escape Velocity Anyone?
Mine, in order of them popping into my head as I type.
If you look up batshit crazy in the dictionary, I believe there's a picture of Tory.
A Colonial funeral looks quite moving, and I got a bit teary eyed at Roslin making sure Adama knew that's the kind of funeral she wants. *blows nose*
I know I should feel bad for Chief, I mean Specialist, but I just can't seem to care. Yes Cally was all the things he said she was, but she was also the mother of his child, Jerk.
Roslin's seriously beggining to worry me. Maybe it's just me, but you just cant go around passing laws to target groups on the ground you just dont like them when they aren't doing anything ilegal. Plus, Roslin's going to be dead soon, what happens when you have all these totalaratarian laws on the books under the new President? I'm loving the whole 'pragmatism' vs 'idealism' going on with Laura and Lee, cause really, Laura needs that. Every government needs an opposition, the opposition doesnt even need to be right (although I tend to side with Lee, and it's not just cause he's pretty, honest), it just needs to force the government to justify its actions. Given the reality of the fleet, Lee's the only person who can be an effective opposition to Laura, cause he's the only other person who can hope to influence Adama, the real power.
It seems like God in the BSGverse is Billy Joel, cause he loves you just the way you are. Sorry, couldn't resist. :)
Ellen Tigh in a Six wig just didn't work for me, much like Cylon Karaoke, I thought it was, well, lame.

A few thoughts -- Chani, 15:52:35 04/27/08 Sun [1]
I have mixed feelings again. There's stuff I loved but also a general impression of being underwhelmed.
I think the Jesus analogy, with Baltar going into the temple, was too obvious, too heavy. And his final speech about love, the montage with the Kara/Sam on the Demetrius and Tyrol, didn't convince me. I'm pretty sure it's a way to mislead us and that Caprica will turn out to be the Christ eventually, but it wasn't very subtle.
Actually Gaius' hippy sect, his new faith and his messianic bevahiour, make me want to worship the Lord of Kobols (nice wee statues btw), make me want the old gods not only to fight back but also to win!
On the other hand I liked Gaius being ill at ease with dominatrix Tory and telling her "I prefered it when you cried"! I liked him hiding and later saying that he's tired of being afraid.
I loved the Saul/Caprica scenes, because she couldn't feel he was a cylon and she so wanted to be like him, that is human, and I think that Michael Hogan's face was wonderful when he thought that Ellen!Six was talking about him until she said the name "Baltar" and ruined his fantasy/hallucination...but like you I didn't like Ellen-with-a-Six-wig. That top the two actresses wore wasn't very flattering btw. They looked so skinny!
On the other hand I liked the echo (but was it intentional?)concerning the wig, given that Laura was wearing one too. I also liked the parallel between Baltar being beaten up and Caprica punching Saul.
I liked Laura thinking of her own funeral and telling Adama "I want you to know what I like" but the final Laura/Bill scene was too much again.
I also loved many little details, like Saul changing Nicky's diaper in the background or Saul mentioning Caprica's request about seeing Hera Agathon (I just loved the fact he called her using her last name!); Tyrol grabbing the other Cylons' arm as if something inside of him was suddenly switched on; Gaius leaning onto Lee and holding his tie and Lee pulling his tie back (slashy metaphor?); Tyrol at the bar, hallucinating about Adama's speech, which echoed Tigh's hallucination about shooting him.
Also I missed Helo, but that was a given.

I'm not sure the audience is *meant* to be convinced about Baltar's religion, cause it's Baltar.
I personally want to all invisible beings to be kept strictly to people's private belief, whether they choose to believe in the Lords of Kobol or the God that loves you, yes he does!. Where is the Colonial Secular Society? Cause I'd totally be handing out leaflets for them? ;)
slashy metaphor?
Hee, I think they've finally realised they're quite possibly the least slashy fandom ever, so have instigated a 'every second episode, a male character who is not Adama gets to touch Lee' policy. I approve. :D

I see what you mean, but the BSG society has always been quite religious. It's...canon. ;- )
As RM himself said, the beliefs are interesting because they reveal how the characters see the world and themselves. Cylons are creatures, they have been created by mankind so they worship one god; the 12 tribes worship the Lord of Kobols because in a way they see themselves as powerful gods.
Baltar wants to be unique, special, hence his new monolisthic faith, I guess.
As long as they don't end the show with showing supernatural stuff such as angels or beings of light sent by the only God, it's fine by me.
Beliefs must remain beliefs, and gods must remain in the characters' head.
One thing that bothered me btw, was that scene in which Caprica holds Baltar and gets him up and for once it looks as if there's indeed an invisible spirit holding him.

That bothered me too -- Esmerelda, 15:27:27 04/28/08 Mon [1]
The near confirmation that headSix is an entity capable of effecting the pyhsical world, I'm hand waving it as being done mostly for a giggle without them thinking of the implication.

Re: Thoughts on Escape Velocity Anyone? -- Lewis H., 14:22:39 04/29/08 Tue [1]
I've just jumped back into the show after deciding it wasn't for me after the first season. Any show that kills a character that whiny and annoying can't be all bad. I've got no use for any religion but especially not ones that are about intimidating people that disagree with them.
I don't know how we as an audience are supposed to feel about Baltar's religious conversion but it seems to me that
the belief system he is offering is better than the one
that sends storm troopers to attack people who can't defend themselves.
Considering though that the Cylon belief is that they are the chosen and everyone else must be wiped out we can only assume that Baltar is being manipulated to further Cylon goals.
