TOEFL Exam and its aspects

Nonnative speakers of English are required to pass an English language proficiency examination and to submit an official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) report showing a score of 550 or above before enrolling into an university in the United States. And those who are not natives and wish to study abroad – mainly in the USA – must be aware of four characteristics concerning TOEFL exam: listening, vocabulary, structure and reading.
First of all, it is necessary to pay carefully attention on the listening. It is important to focus on idiomatic expressions, phrasal verbs and similar sound expressions. Those three aspects of listening are extremely crucial on the fulfillment of that test. For a good result on the listening it is required a reasonable material containing exercises such as dialogues, speeches, and so on. But the most important thing is practice, practice and practice.
Focusing on vocabulary and structure, important tips can be pointed out. Directing attention to the importance of subject-verb agreement, collocations, and complex phrasing on the one hand; and lists of verbs adjectives and nouns with a variety of definitions on the other hand; it will result in a good score in those two sections. However, for doing so, it is required a good grammar book containing quite interesting exercises which make the student more confident in him/herself.
Reading is a process in which students must be able to read several types of written texts. Various styles of written material should be studied to get to know better the several types of writing forms, and being more accessible to those styles of writings. Reading as listening is a matter of studying. Consequently, if a person reads a lot, he/she is going to improve, besides reading, vocabulary.
Finally, those four aspects concerning TOEFL exam must be taken seriously. Although we were checking one by one separately, they are parts of a simple thing, the English language and its complexity. Because of that complexity we divide it into categories, making it easier or less difficult to be acquired.
