Preparing a Good English Class

Class preparation should be one of the main concerns in a teacher’s work. Since the classroom environment allows surprises to happen, a teacher must be prepared to face any kind of challenging situation, so that he feels secure while teaching. Good class preparation also avoids breaking the class pace if an unpredicted situation happens.

When planning a class, a teacher should be prepared to teach the subject proposed, thus he must study the subject, review any doubtful topic and take notes of them. Furthermore he should brainstorm the possible words students might ask the meaning and be ready to answer.

Students normally have ups and downs in motivation and excitement during a class, therefore another important aspect of class preparation is the timing of the activities. The teacher must divide the class into steps so that he can control each activity individually in order to keep the rhythm and motivation balanced.

In order for the students to get involved in the activities proposed, it is a good idea to bring some realia to the classroom. The use of objects from real life in classroom raises curiosity and enlivens the atmosphere, which, consequently, results in a better learning.

Class preparation demands a lot of work from the teachers, even though it is essential for any successful English class.
