SCHOOL PROBLEMS

Although there has been a wide evolution not only on teaching methodologies but also in teaching materials, English learners in public schools of Ibirité face many problems; namely social, pedagogical and educational ones.
First, the majority of the students come from suburban areas and low structured families. Consequently, they are likely to have low self stem since they are not able to accept English as a tool for social ascendancy. Furthermore, as learners are exposed to high violence areas, the negative influence that comes out from their neighborhood context tends to decrease their extrinsic motivation towards the language. (Ellis, 2000)
Second, there are not laws passed that oblige (Ww/e) politicians to designate money to municipal education, for the number of schools are not sufficient for the number of students. Indeed (Ww/e), there is no investment in providing the correct English teaching atmosphere and also no political interest in education since the main aim of the Mayor’s party (Ww/e) is to cause the city industrial development. (??)
Third, education related problems are likely to be observed in the schools. The lack of an up-to-date teaching method despite many researches that have been done in this field combined with old structured materials fail to accomplish the goal of the English teaching process which is making the learner an intrinsic/extrinsic knowledge possessor and also a proficient English speaker due to the use of the four abilities (C). This way English should be seen not only as an examination object but also as an instrument for real communication and sharing tool (Oxford, 2002). Moreover, neither pedagogical courses nor lectures are offered to the teachers. Since they have not become ready for the new teaching tendencies, they are liable to fall apart focusing in structural aspects of the language resulting in a low intrinsic motivation (Ellis, 2000). In fact, the crowded classes contribute negatively to all these points since it is stated on scientific ground that the learning process is affected in chaotic places and due to the great number of students, a low input offer happens.
To sum up, there are many difficulties that come up concerning English teaching in regular schools. Indeed, despite the fact that we are in an era of socio-educational evolution, the students of public schools of Ibirité face many problems regarding English learning. These misfortunes are able to be understood as didactical ones, which are those influenced by the teaching environment, the political ones that are likely to be recognized as the ones regarding the political-financial facets of education and finally the social interference which also constitutes a problem concerning the students.

The content you’ve chosen to write about is very interesting! However, there are some things I’ve pointed out in the text for you to possibly review and also would like to ask you to take a look at the following note:
The first paragraph could be more developed. Paragraphs could be more explicitly divided. “To sum up” maybe could be replaced by a more formal expression/word.
The thesis statement is identifiable and reviewed in the concluding paragraph. Congratulations! You’re on the way!
