Maybe start a weather log on your ferry trips and answer your own question in one year. If it's only breezy wheezy half the time, then the boat only saves half it's fuel. Worth a try, I say, as long as the schedule doesn't go completely out the window. We are at peak oil on a cooking planet, which is why other ferries are experimenting with sails now, freighters are trying big parasail kites, which are probably simpler to deploy, and our run is ideal since it goes more or less across the wind, which is what they call a broad reach, and I don't mean chasin' after the babes on some other island...
