I have kept a mental log of wind speed but never had reason to write it down. Wind is sufficient for practical purposes perhaps 5% of the time, 10% at best.

We are in a wind shadow caused by a wide range of mountains to the east and another to the west. Wind velocity is almost zero almost all of the time.

This is why we rarely see the sails of sail boats. They bought them because there IS wind elsewhere.

The concept is good.

But it can't work here. The cost of refitting a ferry is high (VERY high when you consider the safety and structural issues) and the savings are not 50% or anywhere close. They are miniscule. The only hope is it might work everywhere else and we get a modified ferry too.
