Hey John,
the past few days I have been clearing the snow from the Nor'Easter that hammered us Thursday morning!!! The whole province is still in a state of emergency!!!

Environment Canada's Official Canadian Weather Warnings
Halifax county - east of Porters lake
11:10 AM ast Thursday 19 February 2004

Blizzard warning for Halifax county - east of Porters lake continued This is a warning that blizzard conditions are occurring and will Persist through today. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.

Freezing rain warning for Halifax county - east of Porters lake continued This is a warning that freezing rain is forecast to occur in these Regions this afternoon. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.

A very intense low pressure system south of Nova Scotia will move to lie just southeast of Cape Breton Island by this evening. This storm has already brought heavy snow and blowing snow to the entire province. Northeast winds of 60 km/h gusting to as much as 100 km/h today will give blizzard conditions throughout the district. Snowfall amounts of near 50 centimetres have already fallen in southwestern areas of the province with total snowfalls likely reaching over 60 to 70 centimetres in some areas before it tapers off this evening. Over the eastern shore and eastern Cape Breton the snow is forecast to mix with or change to freezing rain this afternoon then back to snow in the evening.

Storm force northeast winds over the southern Gulf of St Lawrence in association with this system will become northerly by the end of the day. The combination of low pressure and strong winds will generate a very large storm surge of 1.0 to 1.5 metres in Northumberland strait along the northern shorelines of Nova Scotia. The storm surge will be coincident with high tide in many areas leading to flooding along the coastline.

All shorelines from Cape Tormentine to western Cape Breton will be affected to some degree. The flooding will be with the high tide this evening and will end overnight. Strong onshore winds will lead to ice pressure near the coast by this afternoon leading to potential ice ride up and pile up along these shorelines. Flooding in some areas may be significant but it is not expected to be as bad as during the storm of January 21 2000.

Higher than normal water levels are also expected this evening around Cape Breton with potential for minor flooding particularly on east facing shorelines.

As I am writing this, there is another storm passing over us. This storm is only predicted to drop a few inches of snow, unlike the 3-5 feet we received the other day!!!!

How's the weather in CA?

X
